StewMac Fret End Dressing File for Sharp Guitar Frets

I thought this was incredibly expensive (especially for it's size), then I factored in the fact that I no longer have to tape up the fretboard and sides to dress the fret ends and I realized that my time is worth something. Rounded edge of the file works great leaving no marks on the fretboard. Took a Mustang neck whose fret ends felt like grabbing a chainsaw and made them smooth as butter in 30 minutes. Lifetime warranty. Don't hesitate like I did. Buy it now and use it forever.

Couldn't wait for this, one of my guitars had significant fret sprout up and down the neck. SS frets, too. This got the job done well. It was an easy, fast procedure. File is outstanding!

This is a quality, durable, and well designed little fret end file. It is just the right size to comfortably do the job. It does take some practice to use it efficiently and effectively but not a steep learning curve. The file does have smooth edges that will protect the fingerboard. I do recommend using blue tape until you acquire some skill with it. I would also tape poly finished maple fretboards beforehand. I’ve been playing, maintaining, and rebuilding guitars for over 50 years. I previously used a set of standard mini files and nail salon files to dress and smooth fret ends. I saw this StewMac Fret End Dressing File here on Amazon at a reduced more reasonable price of $20 so I bought it. I will say having used standard files to smooth fret ends, this file speeds up the process. It also is a very fine file and it takes less time to polish the fret ends after using it. I wouldn’t personally pay full price for this file, but if you can get it for $20, it’s worth it.

Almost worth the price. Definitely a spectacular file, but for the size I think $20 would be plenty. But either way it’s a solid tool.

This thing works as intended. Great for finishing fret ends. It is tiny and that took a little getting used to with my large hands, but it’s size also informs a certain finesse you need when doing this delicate work.

Simple yet effective tool. I was able to easily smooth out sharp frets. A bit expensive, but it seems like a quality tool that will last if taken care of.

This is one of those things that's worth spending the extra money for. The cheap alternatives I have all leave a much rougher surface when you're done. That requires more finish work and time. This file does what it's supposed to do with minimal effort and polishing. Remember to clean your files with a brass brush after every few frets. If you don't have a brass brush, a toothbrush will get you bye.
