Q: do they deliver the same sound quality on any device like android smarts phones

The limiting factor will the DAC (digital-to-analog-circuit) of the device you are using. You can have a pair of top-notch headphones, but if the DAC on the device is sub-par, then you will not get the sound quality potential out of the headphones. When I use these on my hacked Kindle, they sound great. Used with my Huawei phone, definite difference, even with use of the EQ. Also, these cans are 40ohm impedance. You might needs to consider a pair with a lower impedance rating (my MDR-X10's are 25ohm). Hope this helps!

Q: How usable are these on a plane? Does it block and/or actively cancel the background noise?

They are rather big and bulky to bring on a plane. They don't "cancel" the backround noise and they only muffle thebackround noise I get in my den. The planes engines, I doubt it. However, for listening at home, they can't be beat!

Q: Is this headphone good to use at the gym?

I use them when I go for walks at the park and they are perfect, but, I believe that depending on what type of activity you are doing at the gym. I believe that they would not work very well in a activity where your head is moving all the time, the headphone would tend move.

Q: I have a fairly larger then average sized head, is that going to be an issue with these?

I have a large head as well. The headphones fit, but the fact that I use glasses makes it uncomfortable and sometimes painful on my ears. I'm not sure if this is because of my head/ear proportions or just that I use glasses.
