My first experience was when the large toe on my right foot grew to several times it's normal size, turned red and hot, and I had the most excruciating pain I have experienced in my life. I have tried all the medications, except for the IV one they admit you to the hospital for, the side effects were to drastic for all the others. Colchicine/colcrys affect the way your body reacts to the uric acid, but does nothing to lower the uric acid level in your bloodstream. I use colcrys, but a person needs to be very careful, it can have some very serious side effects. Some numbers, my highest uric acid level was 12.3, while on a medication at the lowest it was 7.7 (with side effects). Doing the same thing, the same way, expecting a different result, is a form of insanity. Three months ago I bought a book "goodbye to gout - a new gout diet" by Rose Scott, on amazon. Started doing some of the things. Had uric acid test 7/18/19 and it was 6.7, in the normal range. I had to read the book several times and I need to read it some more, but the diet lowered my uric acid level with no side effects. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great book. *by V***L on March 30, 2017* There's only two good books about gout. This is one of them. You got to read it a few times. But there's definately new stuff in here for me. explaining how Vit C is removing iron was a key for me. if you had severe bed ridden I almost want to kill myself pain, AND tophi, AND you aren't willing to change your diet for real, for the long term, as in years , and stop drinking, period. After all this. Your gout probably wont go away by reading this. Gout treatment is about diet .And theres technical medical explanations in here. Written in laymans terms. Although there are some new ideas behind the cause of gout there is also some reinforcement of some of the old adages -ie don't drink alcohol, avoid red meat. But it is interesting in presenting a case of how different thinking from research shows that perhaps a different diet will work.
