Our 1yo very quickly figured out how to lift the gate latch, but couldn't pull the gate towards her at the same time. Thankfully it has the latch lock mechanism on it as well. The latch and lock are easy to open with one hand, which is great for many reasons. The height of the fence is perfect. The cats can jump over it if they really feel the need, and it's several inches taller than our 1yo. I'm 5'8" and definitely couldn't step over this thing easily or comfortably. As of now that's all I can think to write about this fence. There are 2 different heights available on Amazon, and if you're not looking specifically for the height, you'll end up with an extra set of useless pieces like we did. **Q: Can the door on the gate be installed on either end or must it only be in the middle?** A: Can be installed in almost any position keeping in mind the configuration is a set of two panels makes up a section and you may have to move caps on the bottom coupler. I have 3 of the extra long sets and have used them in different places in the house. I combined 2 sets to make a 25' divider with a single door in the middle and the other two doors on two gates to keep the dog out of the dining room. Very configurable, just loosen the top bolt all the way and pull the rod out. **Q: Once the hardware is mounted to the walls, how hard is it to remove the panels? We need a fence that can be up and down at various times.** A: Not very easy if you want to remove it completely because it's screwed into the walls (my setup). Continuously unscrewing and screwing it back in will lead to the holes wallowing out. You do have the option of removing everything but the two panels attached to the wall. The mechanism(s) on the panels that allow them to pivot can be completely removed allowing you to remove the gate portion. It's not ideal but it's probably better than ruining your walls by screwing and unscrewing the brackets. Depending on what you are mounting the gate to, you could probably put some permanent mounts in place in place allowing for easy removal on a regular basis. **Q: Do the joints lock into place? That was really hard on the hands. This gate has kept our twins contained. They like to pull up and test the gate. It has stayed intact. This has been great for our large living area. We were considering a flexible gate but glad we didn’t do that because they would have easily knocked it down. We did need to get an extension. For one side (2 panels) which was only available from Lowe’s. This also installed easily and now our living space is fully protected.we like the the gate can flex to any space shape. We have not taken it down nor do we intend to, to make a play yard.
