Heavy Duty, Nice Quality
Nice and heavy razor with a good smooth angle. It makes shaving quick, easy, and safe. The handle is a little shorter than I'd prefer, but definitely works.

The ultimate super razor!!
I have to admit that I was worried about getting a safety razor! They were a completely new domain for me! This razor is small but has a long enough handle for good grip. I get a nice close shave and haven't cut myself once. (Just don't press hard!) Safety razors are more ecofriendly because they is no plastic like most razors or disposable razors. The blades last FOREVER compared to normal razors and the blades are much cheaper! Months later, I still haven't had to buy new blades because I'm still working on the ones that come with this safety razor. Excellent buy! Cheaper in the long run, better shave, lasts longer, and ecofriendly. I also feel classy and fancy using this razor! What more could you ask for?!

Small Package, Big Performance!
When it comes to short handled safety razors, there’s only been one game in town. Namely, the Merkur HD 34C. So, I was delighted to have discovered Edwin Jagger’s short handled safety razor! Coming in four different handle configurations (Chrome, Lined Chrome, Ivory, and Ebony), I opted for the Ebony model which features a black rubberized handle with chrome capped accents. The weight is perfect. The razor is neither too heavy nor too light. The balance point is closer towards the razor head. This allows for nice control. I found myself easily flipping the razor in my hand, changing my grip, etc without missing a beat or accidentally dropping the razor. The rubberized handle also give the user a very sure grip, even when wet. Speaking of the handle, it is quite hard and robust. It feels as firm as any chrome plated metal handle. Being a three-piece razor, the Ebony comes with Edwin Jagger’s well-known DE89 series razor head. The precision of these razor heads is outstanding. The blade aligns perfectly. The blade sits evenly with balanced blade exposure on each side. Once loaded and tightened down, there’s no need to double-check alignment. The blade is always straight. There’s no need to shift or manually align the blade as you would with other safety razors at this price point. The shave is very smooth. Closeness will depend on your skin and beard type, but I found it to be outstandingly closer than the Merkur. I also found it to be closer than my standard Edwin Jagger DE89L. After some consideration, I surmised the reason for this uptick in closeness is due to the shorter handle. The shorter handle gives one better control, thus allowing the user to hit the exact, proper 30 degree angle for shaving. From an efficiency standpoint, the Ebony is simply a better razor than the Merkur HD 34C. On a scale of one to ten (1 being very mild and 10 being very aggressive), I’d rate the 34C at a 2. The Ebony gets a solid 6. In comparison, My EJ DE89L comes in at a close 5 to 5.5. The Ebony is worlds better than the 34C and just a notch more efficient than my standard Edwin Jagger. But that single notch makes a big difference. This is not to say that the 34C is bad razor. If you need an extremely mild, short-handled razor, then the 34C might be just what you need (especially if you are a beginner wet shaver with sensitive skin). If you need smoothness AND efficiency, then the Ebony is your choice. In fact, I’d recommend the Ebony over the standard EJ DE89 with the only caveat being the user’s hand size. If you have large hands, you may want to try the standard Edwin Jagger razors. However, both EJ’s still require strict technique to achieve a close shave. It’s just that the Ebony allows the user to reach that level quicker and more easily. I’m sure with practice, the standard EJ will give as close a result. (and I’ve found that, as my technique impoves, my standard Edwin Jagger razor does shave closer and closer). But practice makes perfect. Out of the box, the Ebony delivers the desired result more easily. If you already have a favorite razor (as do I, VIKINGS BLADE The Chieftain Safety Razor + 5 Swedish Platinum Super Blades + Travel Case and VIKINGS BLADE The Godfather Safety Razor + 5 Swedish Platinum Super Blades + Gift Box ), you may want to pick up this little gem as its diminutive size and big performance make it perfect for travel. At under 25 bucks, this is a great price for an Edwin Jagger safety razor. I paid $22.52 and received free Prime two-day shipping. My hunch is, you’d better get this safety razor before Edwin Jagger finds out how effective it is and raises the price accordingly!

Better than Merkur 34C
I had gone through 3 Merkur blades when I finally figured out that these razors were breaking for a reason - poor quality metal. This Jagger razor is simply in structure but so solid. I've had it over a year and still love it. The rubber handle is really nice for precision grip. Pro product. Would buy again and recommend.

Excellent razor head, handle just too short
The razor head is great, and gives me a wonderful shave. I started to take off one star for the handle, which is just too short, but I knew it came with a short handle, so that didn't seem fair. The handle is beautifully made, as is the head, but I find it too hard to maneuver. I am keeping the razor, though, and I've ordered a longer handle for it, which I hope will make it just right. As it is, the head gives me a great shave, so it should be a winning combination. I like a mild razor, and I've tried a number of them, including vintage Techs and a variety of 3 piece and TTO models, and this has been the best of them all. If you like a very short handle, this would be an excellent choice. It's still an excellent choice, if you're willing to buy another handle for it.

My favorite razor
Yes, it's true. This is my absolute favorite razor, and yet I'd only give it 4 and a half stars if it were allowed. I love it because of its small and compact style. The short handle (the shortest I've seen on any safety razor) truly does allow for smoother strokes without irritation. The one thing that would make this razor more appealing would be a butterfly loading model. As the picture shows, my razor is well worn. You'd expect that since I've had it for about 3 1/2 years. But the rubber started to wear off long ago - - I'm thinking shortly before the end of year one. So it's because of aesthetics that I'd give this 4 1/2 stars (cheap rubber and no butterfly) and not the functioning of the razor itself. And I couldn't bring myself to lower the rating to 4 stars because of that. I've got the black one. And despite the lack of a butterfly model, I'd have already purchased the ivory one as well if the rubber held up better. Still, for shaving comfort as well as the overall experience of shaving with a safety razor, this one is about as good as it gets!

Great for beginners
First DE razor I've ever tried and wish I started using one earlier. Kept putting it off because I was scared I'd cut myself but that was dumb. Been using this ever ly day since I got it and no cuts, no scrapes, no razor burn. Just a smooth face with no irritation after shaving. Canceled my membership to DSC and bought more DE blades. Use proraso pre shave, shaving soap, and post shave lotion. If you're worried about cutting yourself, it's not that scary. Watch a vid of 2 on YouTube. Let the weight of the razor do the work and enjoy the smooth, irritation free face.

Not Sure about this one
When I first opened the box, the very first thing that struck me is the light weight and quality of the metal/materials. I have a Muhle to compare it to and the difference in the head metal weightiness and quality is quite substantial. There seems to be an emphasis on material/build cost savings because the metal just doesn't feel as good in the hand. Maybe it's just a different design but you can see in the photo the difference in the head. Jagger on the left, Muhle on the right. I like the heftiness of the Muhle better. On the flip side, I like the feel of the rubber handle. I just got it so I'm not sure how durable it is but gonna give it a whirl and will update.

Great razor for a starter. Stylish and modern. Solid and easy to use.
Already an Edwin Jagger owner I know these razors to be a good solid bet. Well made and comfortable with a smooth, unaggressive cut, (dependant on personal style and blade of course!), this was a good choice for my teenage son, the modern looking rubber handle and styling ensured a good response. He needed a better shave than disposables supply. Difficult to clean, and expensive to change frequently, meant his skin was suffering. The initial cost of this razor is nothing compared to the savings in blades. He can use a new blade every few days and his skin is vastly improved, as I hoped it would. This is a cool looking razor which is easy to use. The idea that this type of razor means more cuts is not true, a slight change in technique may be needed but the results are well worth it. My son has less redness and the rash on his neck is gone. I think he might now actually believe something I've told him.... but then again perhaps I'm deluding myself.

Hope this helps?! :)
