If you're looking for a great solution for old faded paint or to cover patina, this is it.
If you are looking for an inexpensive way to put clear coat on worn out or patina paint, this is a great solution and is quite inexpensive. I attached a 2 minute 20 second video covers materials need and before after pictures.

Great product.
Wonderful stuff, I won't use oil base paint without it. Makes brush glide, and deletes brush streaks by pulling the paint together.

I Always Keep This Stuff On-Hand
Have been using this stuff to treat metal and prevent rust for as long as I can remember. My dad showed me this back in the 80s, and I always keep a can in the garage. Works great for maintaining car/truck frames and keeping rust at bay. I typically wire brush the rusty area, apply a coat of Penetrol, let it dry overnight...... Then hit it with a bit of flat black spray paint then next day. Those small single use brushes from Harbor Freight work great to apply this stuff. I have never actually used it to thin paint, so I can't speak to that application. I am glad they still make it.

Good, but careful using with primers
I'm painting over 70's style veneer paneled walls. I got this because I'm using some thick ass oil based primer than goes on the wall like glue. I wanted something to save myself the agony of dragging this primer around my 900sqft basement. Thus we come to this product, which claims to make oil based paints easier to apply. The pros: it works. It makes the paint easier to apply. I added half the recommended amount per gallon because I was afraid of making it *too* thin and preventing the primer from doing its primery thing. (Aka keeping me from seeing the blood like splotches of wood stain seeping through my brand new paint job.) with the penetrol added to the primer, the paint went on much smoother. It didn't take any longer to dry imo but I wasn't paying close attention either. Cons: It's stinky. Really stinky. And oil based paint is already stinky, so this attribute doesn't help. It's also a disconcerting brown color which made me worried about my primer (because it was white and I didn't want to taint the color). Mostly: I painted half my primer on without this project then plastered over the panel joints to hide the grooves (two coats). In half the room, the stain bled through the plaster juuuuust slightly: The area with no penetrol. The area where I used the penetrol additive the stain bled through MUCH more. I don't have photos but if I get motivated I'll add them later. So it works, but if you're using your primer specifically to BLOCK stain or color or something, I wouldn't use too much of this. It definitely effected the primers ability to...prime.

Seems alright on black car trim
I bought this to use for painting, as well as for black automotive trim. I put it on about 11 months ago, and it still seems to be holding up alright. I put it on a white car, with black trim, and haven't had any real problems with streaking or staining. I was worried about that most, since it seems kind of non-reversible. But it seems to streak the same amount, or less, than other trim products I've used (like Mother's back-to-black). I am pretty sure it streaks much less, but don't care enough to test it side by side. Overall, I would easily recommend this for someone who has something like a work truck, or older car, that they don't care much about, and would just like to look good, for a fractional amount of work. I haven't touched it up or anything since I applied it, and it still looks OK about a year later. It doesn't look professionally detailed or anything; but instead of looking 10-15 years old, maybe it only looks 3-4, which I consider fine. To apply it, I just washed the car thoroughly, and used an old sponge to wipe it on. I can't remember if I had to put multiple coats on after it sucked into the plastic. It seemed to level out alright, I don't remember much splotchiness. It forms kind of a coating, like shellac. So mask off the paint, or try hard not to get it on the paint. It probably wouldn't be great for something that's your pride & joy sports car. Maybe it'd still be good for stuff like wheel arches, mudflaps, door sills, door handles, etc. The only concern I have is about whether or not you could remove it. I don't know if soap would be enough, or if you'd have to use some kind of solvent & risk damaging the plastic. I'd rather use this and apply it once every 1-2 years, than detailing products which seem to last only a few months.

Perfect for Amazing Cells in Acrylic Pour Painting
I use this for non-intended purposes in my acrylic pour paintings. In my opinion, it is superior to silicone oil that is traditionally used for cells. I add 1-2 drops to 4-5oz mixed paint with Floetrol, and absolutely love the results!

It works!
Works very well with oil based paint and give you the time needed to work with it and it definitely minimizes the brush streaks . Very impressive
