I fix my own car, but never repaired threads before. Is it hard and is this a good kit?

I used this kit to repair a piece of restaurant equipment...and it worked great!  Make sure that you drill carefully and slowly, and pull out the drill regularly to shake off the drilled metal.  When "re-tapping" the newly-drilled hole, be sure that you're level to the material so that you don't tap on an angle.  Work slowly!  Tap a short distance and then back out the tapping tool and remove the metal and then continue tapping.  If I recall, I watched a few YouTube videos before doing the job.  Also, if I recall, I used some cutting oil to make the process go smoother.  Be sure to use the right size bits, coils, etc. for your application.  I had a little trouble breaking off the tab at the bottom of the coil on my first try...so I "unscrewed" the coil that I mucked up and installed a new one.  The repair has held up for more than a year, and the repair saved me over $1000 by not having to replace a part on that piece of restaurant equipment. Will it work on spark plug holes on ford aluminum heads that are off the engine

Spark plugs holes are much bigger. Look for that specific tool.

Will this work for an 18mm bolt hole that needs to be rethreaded?

You will have to determine the actual bolt/thread size being used. 18mm is the bolt head size not bolt/thread size.
Go to any hardware store and they can tell you the actual bolt/thread size.
