Anything Goes: Cole Porter Songbook Inst

This is a tremendous compilation of some GREAT cuts! You will be extremely satisfied with this disc if you are discerning collector of tasteful jazz. The Clifford Brown piece is a true masterpiece. Bud Powell smokes. So, obviously does Art Tatum - but that's a given. The other cuts are also excellent. Whoever gave this a 2 star rating must have had the volume off. If you don't like the music on this disc, then you don't like great jazz music. Period. Do yourself a favor-savor this disc!

I bought this album a few years ago when I was learning about jazz (which, I might remind the reviewer below, is largely concerned with re-interpretation of standards). I'm glad I did. There are some great treatements of Mr. Porter's classic songs. In particular, I like Tal Farlow's "Anything Goes" and Clifford Brown's "I Get a Kick Out of You".

There are a few nice tracks on this album but it was largely a disappointing experience. It seems like most of the tracks were experiments by the artists in their own styles, styles remote from that originally intended by Porter.
