An inspiring story of a poverty stricken boy who grows up in a coal mining family where they have to work maintaining apartment buildings in order to have a place to live. As he grows he gets a break when a recruiter offers him a job selling books door to door. The kid as a natural, and soon he's touring the world, selling books to GIs stationed overseas, and spending winters in Florida and California. He's inspired by the San Francisco area and vows to go to college in Berkeley. He does, then recruits some of his classmates and friends to do the same. He even marries a door to door sales gal and they have a long, happy, hard working, but very rewarding life.The author is a natural born storyteller and so the feeling of being in a bar and listening to him reel off one tale after another is ever-present.
