Excellent results, but DON'T use a drill.
A lot of reviews mention "wobble." The included drill bit adapter is flexible, and I can see where that could cause some wobble if used out of concentricity. That was a horrible design choice, imo. I think Wheeler should have omitted the drill chuck altogether altogether. You're only lapping the surface material to even it up, not machining it yourself out of a billet block. Just use your hands.I did two uppers — a $200 Vltor MUR upper & a $40 Anderson upper — by hand, and it took about 5 min to knock them both out. Doing this showcased that many times, you truly do get what you pay for. The top upper in the attached picture is the Anderson and the bottom upper is the Vltor. Notice how evenly the Vltor upper lapped (because it was already square) and how off-center the removed material was on the Anderson. I've use Andersons uppers several times before, and I've never had a problem with them not working, but this shows you how out-of-true they can actually be.If trying to squeeze every bit of accuracy possible out of a build, this is an easy step to ensure full, even contact of the barrel shoulder to the upper for maximum consistency. Just DONT use a drill.

Use to damage your AR-15 upper receiver
Made in China and definitely horrible quality. The lapping tool has many dings on crucial surfaces that will cause damage to the interior surface of the upper receiver. There are also dings on the outer edges that have caused high spots on the lapping surface of the tool. Reviews posted by other purchasers have noted similar quality issues with the product throughout the years of it being sold on Amazon. Wheeler clearly does not care about improving the quality of this product. If you do choose to take a gamble and purchase it, then you should carefully inspect it upon arrival and do not be surprised if you have to return it.

It works, but go slow due to balance issues
The lapping tool works well; however it is not well balanced. Running it too fast results in vibration. The instructions tell you to turn it slow anyway, so follow the instructions. Prior to lapping the receiver, I did a prussian blue test on it there were low spots on the surface that mates with the barrel. It took less than 5 minutes to perform the entire lapping operation and it passed a blue check afterwards. Prior to lapping, I also took measurements of the lapping tool with a set of digital calipers and a square on a granite surface plate. The tool is consistent and accurate to at least .0001 and is square between the lapping surface and the pilot guide.

Well made tool
I purchased the tool to lap the AR15 upper to the barrel extension. Worked perfectly. I was surprised how many AR 15 Uppers are not perfectly square. This tool made an easy job to correct this problem.

I didn't know how far off my upper receiver was.
The media could not be loaded. Precision is gained in 0.0001" of an inch.I knew about receiver lapping, but never gave it too much thought until I set out to accurize my 6.5 Grendel. Which began as a whim purchase of a used Bear Creek Arsenal barrel at a gun show. The $20 barrel shot .5 MOA with factory Hornady SST's, but would not chamber factory Hornady ELD-M's; the throat was too short. Pay a gunsmith $$$ to rechamber and re-throat or lay down $$$ for a good barrel?Intrigued by the accuracy of a $20 barrel I'm going to see what this caliber can do, I picked up a Ballistic Advantage DMR 20" Grendel with a Memorial Day 20% discount based on excellent results with their .223 Wylde Hanson profile barrel, and order the Wheeler Lapping tool.I lapped the barrel face of my Noreen forged upper receiver and found a high spot next to the barrel extension pin slot. With less than a minute of low pressure lapping I had a full contact area on the receiver face.I choose this lapping tool over the Brownells tool because of the flexible drive shaft which helps eliminate drill or user induced side to side pressure while lapping.Hopefully the new barrel meets expectations, but the Wheeler tool already has.
