Had the xr5. manual states to use 35mm with ll rgb fans but they are too long, i'm down to the screw protection plate they are not all the way down.

I had the same issue, the screws are about 2-3mm too long. I had to use 2 washers stacked on top of eachother to fill the gap.

Hello there - depends what you're planning to use it for.. i don't recommend this radiator for new cpu and gpu. I use a 240mm slim for cpu and 240 thick for gpu.. its better to get atleast a dual rather than this single

What wattage can this be used to cool? for example can it cool a rtx 3080 on its own without another radiator?

I imagine it will be fine. I'm using it as a single radiator to cool an AMD 5700xt plus an i7 4790k. CPU below 60c GPU 70c (amd measures from a hotter part of the die compared to nvidia) while stressing both.
