Good unit if you learn the secret ...
I was conflicted in purchasing this unit. I bought one 6-pack and 1 single unit. It seemed the reviews were mostly positive, but there were several troubling reports of false alarms. I have personally experienced the false alarms with about 50% of my units. I even returned one for replacement. The false alarms are indicated as device malfunction according to the listing inside the unit. The chirp is distinct from the bad battery chirp. The false alarm can occur with perfectly good batteries and can occur at any time, but in my experience it seems to be when there is high humidity and / or dust in the air.I have decided to stick with units because they have a lot of good traits - price, dual function, easy installation and super easy battery change process. The "secret" I alluded to in the title, is a method that I have found that seems to reset the false alarms, and in most cases they did not return, or only after a several weeks. In my case, this is a level I can tolerate, especially since there is no confusion about low battery - that has a different signal. To reset the false alarm, and if you are lucky, it will be for a long time, simply twist off the unit from the mount and take out the batteries. Put the batteries back in, and follow the voice prompts to reset the unit. Do this a couple or three times for good measure, and you should enjoy a long period of no false alarms. Some of my units have had no false alarms, and the others have settled down after a couple of resets. As I said, it has been my personal choice to tolerate this level of inconvenience, for what I think is an otherwise excellent unit.

Works well
This smoke/carbon alarm works well for each room of the house. My only issue is that it burns through the battery life pretty frequently

Missing Part But Got It Done
Installed 6 of these in the house today. It was a simple process overall. It seems trivial when installing a device to protect your household of seven people, but I did have to dig up one anchor to install one of them because it only came with one. We had hardwired Kidde alarms in our old house. Good equipment and I like the talking feature. Might be good to have some extra anchirs around when installing or for Kidde to throw an extra one in each package.I got it done. Thanks for helping me to keep the family safe.

Liked everything save how it aligns to mounting plate.
I liked the design with the only exception being the mounting bracket. The unit does not always align with the screw mounting points. i.e., battery tray is not oriented to the bottom automatically when you mount the plate that it attaches to onto the wall with the screws aligned sideways or up and down. I found that odd.Beyond that I though the design was easy to use and worked well. It has a small plastic flap that you leave under the batteries when you put them in, so you can pull them out easily. The unit can also be removed and returned to the wall/ceiling very easily with a quarter turn. You are not searching to align tabs or anything. Just hold it to the plate and turn and it locks onto the plate with little effort.

Most Cost Effective Way to Prevent both CO and Fires
I personally know someone who fell victim to CO poisoning after a furnace installer did shoddy work. He almost died, it's a miracle he's here, and his mind is no longer what it once was. Point being: I'm determined to protect against both threats. This seems to be the most cost effective way to do so.The unit runs on batteries only, which is good for me because I'm not going to re-wire the housse for them.As to effectiveness: the smoke alarms do go off if we burn something in the oven. And the CO alarm went off after we installed a new AC coil, we think because of the soddering. Not much to go one in terms of effectiveness, I don't plan to run a controlled test for CO.If you're in the market for a unit that covers both CO and Fire, and you don't have the house wired for them, then I recommend this unit.

Disappointed in California
I bought the contractor's six pack of these to update all of by rooms prior to an city inspection. One package was missing the two mounting screws and another was missing both screws and one of the two plastic anchors. If I had time to return them, I would've. That kind of quality control isn't something you should protect your life with. Granted, the devices tested okay upon install of the batteries...but poor quality control rarely only affects one area. Yikes!Cost me all of my Amazon savings running to Home Depot to get the missing parts!

minor issues
I ordered six of these, which arrived in ziplock bags. As far as I can tell, the alarms work, but I had some minor issues with the units. First, it would have been nice if the instructions indicated which size pilot hole was required for the wallboard anchor. Next, one of the units had a desiccant pack wedged in the battery compartment in such a way that I could not get the battery cover off without a lot of effort. Finally, one of the units was missing a battery. None of these are a big deal, but together, they indicate low quality and poor attention to detail. Next time I'll go somewhere else.

Doesn’t really save you from having to buy 2!
In there own description, they mention that the fire/smoke detection component uses ionization detection not photoelectric. And that they recommend you have both installed. So still this product requires another installation in order to complete your protection. Better off buying dual sensor smoke, then Carbon monoxide combined with explosive gas detection. That is max protection for minimum installations. My television caught on fire and the whole living room was filled with smoke before I opened a window. This product did not detect the smoke. Bottom line.
