A Wife After God's Own Heart: 12 Things That Really Matter in Your Marriage

I genuinely love this book. I have been married for two years, and have been a Christian for eighteen years. Needless to say, I thought I had it all figured out. I thought my husband and I would have this perfect, godly relationship and we'd live happily ever after. Then I realized that husband's don't always meet expectations. I am a stubborn person, and unfortunately that can make me condescending, jealous, and controlling at times. When I give in to my insecurities, I find that those awful characteristics can really have a grip on me and in return, can hurt my husband. I purchased this book because I have a true longing to be a loving wife, and I wanted some insight. This book offers very detailed, loving advice and guidance for women who may not be feeling up to par in their marriage, and women who are struggling with the expectations that we have for our husbands. My favorite feature a list at the end of each chapter that has practical application for each topic addressed. It has been my goal to implement at least one of these aspects from each chapter into my life. I like that the author provides options - it doesn't make sense for all of us to do the same things - and having several ideas of how to improve yourself and your marriage allows for us to make choices that may get us out of our comfort zone, but will ultimately bless our marriage. The best thing about this book is that it is 100% based on what the Bible says. I can't understand why too many people would be critical of this book - the Bible has clear guidelines about how to be a loving, Christian wife and Elizabeth George provides a wonderful resource to supplement what we already know to be true through the word of God.

This book slide easily into one of my favorites books so far. There is lots of practical advice that is easily applicable and useful. The writing is fantastic and the entire book is very Christ centric. Loved it!

I have been with my husband for 18 years. We will be married 15 years this coming January. I felt so stuck. I had tried all I could trying to find that missing spark that would bring true joy and fulfillment to my marriage. Neither of us were what I call 'bad people' We both tried to do the right things. This book helped me find that connection that was missing in our marriage. Helped me find the courage and to understand why changes had to be made within myself. To stop trying to change my husband and become a wife after God's own heart. As a result, I became a wife after my husband's own heart. This book, along with the study guide, has taught me way to improve my marriage. It does not teach you how to change anyone but yourself! Something wonderful happens when your strive to make positive and godly changes within yourself as a woman and wife. Those around you, including your husband, begin to strive in positive directions as well! Positive change will occur in both the lives of yourself and your husband. This will trickle down into the rest of your family and even your friends and acquaintances. This book can be a beautiful experience for you. I highly recommend going through it with both your bible and the study guide. Don't just take my word on it, discover it for yourself what it's like to have a truly blessed and happy marriage.

This book is great. I couldn’t stop reading it when I started

This book has been a great resource for preparing me to be a better Godly wife/mother and a better person for my future husband and children

I was really torn while reading this book. Part of me could appreciate the advice she was giving and loved the way that she weaved scripture throughout the book, but the other part felt like she was saying that any struggles in marriage were my fault for not being submissive enough or having the wrong priorities. There is good advice in this book, especially for someone who is a new Christian, however the emphasis she put on being subservient was a little scary to me. Even though the husband leads his wife, there still needs to be a mutual respect in the relationship. There were times it came across as if the key to a happy marriage was following these "rules" perfectly and your marriage would be perfect. Every marriage is different though, and sometimes doing everything as a perfect wife still wont be enough for your spouse. I was also really bothered by how she insists that you must be a stay at home mom/wife or your priorities are completely wrong. Again, everyone's situation is different and I dont feel it is right to put that kind of pressure on someone. That said, she does do a great job of emphasizing how crucial it is to have God at the front of your life and marriage, and her love of the Lord and her family is very evident throughout the book. Be sure to do the study chapters in the back of the book as you go.

Great read so far! I’m about halfway down and it’s been great, I love the fresh perspectives for both sides of a marriage. Recommend!!

I would recommend this book not only to newly married women but also to women who have been married for any length of time. Women considering marriage or who are engaged would also benefit from this book. The chapters are easy to read. There are many scripture references and real life scenarios that help make understanding the book better. The book also has a useful study guide to journal your thoughts and feelings. I plan to present this book to our women's group at church. There is also a book entitled, "A Husband After God's Own Heart" written by her husband. I'm encouraging my husband to purchase that book. If it's anything like this one, I know he will enjoy reading it.

Very good book - all points and suggestions based on actual Bible verses, I have found it a great and practical help. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of marriage so it can be read through cover to cover or you can easily refresh your memory with a stand-alone chapter. Would highly recommend.

A very Bible based book with relevant and refreshing advice on lots of aspects of marriage. Chapters are short enough to read one a day easily and give you plenty to think about!

This book was recommended by my Pastor to my wife and I and its been a wonderful blessing to both of us. i had to buy one as a pre-wedding gift for my brother who is just getting very hitched. A real blessing
