Surprise Twists and a Brilliant New Take on Old Genres
I'm a long-time fan of Casey L. Bond, and when I heard she had a zombie/vampire mashup novel, I was intrigued as hell. I knew that if anyone could pull off something of this magnitude, it would be Casey. Not only did I get to beta-read this book, I also bought it when it hit the shelves so I could read it after it was edited. Enough of my gabbing. Let's get to the good stuff. From a Reader's Perspective:I liked the sassy main character, Porschia. She made me feel like there was hope when I was pretty sure none existed. There she sits with no technology, a broken world, and people surrounding her she can't trust. Yet, she's driven, sees the silver lining around the storm cloud, and loves unconditionally. I'd like to know her in real life. World building was amazing. I could picture the small village with its simple inhabitants who've been forced back to the ways of the pilgrims. There was never a dull moment, and I often found myself gripping the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next. Pacing was perfect. This is a shorter story that you should be able to read in one sitting. Did I see the end coming? No. No I didn't. I was left with my jaw on the floor. I can't wait to read Frantic. From an Editor's Perspective:There are several tense jumps, comma splices, and run-on sentences, but nothing that threw me out of the story, and they were scattered out enough that I could ignore them. Most readers probably wouldn't even notice. Story line is consistent throughout.Rating:1 Star for giving me a truly unique story.1 Star for keeping me guessing.1 Star for awesome world building.1 Star for pacing and that amazing ending..5 Star for consistency.-.5 Star for tense jumps and grammar issues.Overall, 4.5 out of 5 stars. I always round up, not down, so this book gets a 5. Recommended for those looking for a new twist on a couple of old genres.

Feeding frenzy indeed!
A viral catastrophe leaves Blackwater Colony in peril. Humans must watch out for the Infected roaming around town waiting to sink their teeth to eat them. A Rotation is held weekly to get enough food ration to starving families.Porschia Grant is heartbroken when her sister Mercedes doesn't make it back from Rotation and is now considered an Infected. Mercedes was their mother's favorite child, and she blames Porschia for her sister's tragic ending. There's so much that Porschia yearns from her mom - food, love and attention, but she's not getting any of it despite all her sacrifices for her family. There's two things she needs to do before her time runs out - get married or join the Rotation. There's a treaty between the survivors and the night - walkers to help keep the place safe and secure. All it takes is to let vampires feed from them every night in exchange of food rations. But when two murders are discovered in a river, humans are quick to blame night walkers.I love love love this book and I want to smack myself for not reading it sooner. Frenzy got me all frantic and frenzied and fainting. Casey Bond is such a wicked story teller.I love so many things about this book. Where do I begin? Well, there's the brave and truly admirable Porschia, who has suffered so much and continues to struggle with her new life by the end of the book. There's Saul, dependable and loving and selfless Saul. I love this man, he's got a good head on her shoulders and a good gentle heart. I couldn't imagine anyone else perfect for Porschia. And there's the night-walkers, Roman and Tage. Honestly, these blood sucking entities intrigued me. Their hot and cold attitude doesn't only confused Porschia and me, but literally gets me on the edge, and I actually can't force myself to hate them. Then there's kind-hearted Mrs. Maggie Dillinger and little brother Ford who's making me believe that humanity is still not lost in a colony of infected and undead.Casey Bond breaks the norm when it comes to love triangles and paranormals. To be specific, there is a triangle that happens to the main characters in the book, but you don't feel that happening because the heroine knows what's good for her. I love how feisty and headstrong Porschia is. Katniss Everdeen could learn a thing or two about this young survivor.I can't further articulate how awesome this book is. It's so different from all other paranormal books I've read before. Frenzy is intense and heart-pounding and hair-raising. I'm not surprised when I learned that the author recently received numerous awards for the books she'd written. Casey L. Bond is the bomb! This is one of the best series I've read from her so far! I can't wait to read book 2, Frantic!

A great apocalypse read
This was an enjoyable read, vampires, treaty and the infected. Great plot and characters. It starts of slow then turns into a fast paced read with mystery, suspense and romance.
