hpw many spices do you think this rack would hold?

Short Answer:  18 - 21 jars, depending on size of jar.Long Answer:  Each shelf holds 6 to 7 jars depending on the size of the jar.  My shelf is holding 20 spice jars right now.  (All different brands and sizes of jar.)  I tested, and you can definitely fit 7 Trader Joe's spice size jars on one shelf.  They are about 1-1/2" at their widest.  More than one jar wider than 1-3/4" and only 6 will fit per shelf.  Each shelf has an interior length of about 12-1/2" and an interior width of about 2-1/4".  Note:  the height of the shelf, with the spices in it, is 16".  It does NOT fit under my overhead cabinets, or inside the cabinets (because of shelf height).  I've got it sitting on the counter where there is nothing overhead.  It could also be mounted on a wall, but it is quite heavy fully loaded (7-1/2 lbs), so you'd need to mount it to wall studs, or a wood wall (not dry wall).

Is it really 3" deep? Want to put Republic of Tea canisters on this instead of spice jars and don't know if they'll fit. Thanks!

I just got mine and used a digital caliper to take measurements. The summary is that a container should be a maximum of 2 1/8" wide and 4 3/4" high to fit. Read on for details.The exact measurement of the internal width is 58 mm (about 2 1/4"). However that leaves no clearance. I subtracted 4mm and we get 54 mm (2 1/8"). So thats what you can take as the measurement of the maximum allowed width. Even a 57mm will fit however it will be a tight fit. Relevant for the bottom and middle shelves, the measured height is 133mm (5 1/4"). Leaving some clearance of about 12mm, you get a maximum height of 4 3/4".For reference I got some McCormick bottles from the store and they fit easily. Their size is 45mm (1 3/4") wide and 112mm (4 3/8") high.

Question 3

IS this sturdy enough to hold nail polish bottles? Standing up, or mounted? How many would fit?

I think nail polish bottles might be too small to remain upright on this rack.  It is meant for containers with larger dimensions. Spice bottles with diameters of 1.5 to 1.75 inches fit in perfectly. Anything smaller will likely tip over, unless you have so many that they would fit in tightly?  Also, nail polish bottles are so much shorter... I love this item for its intended purpose, but honestly would not recommend it for such small bottles as nail polish.
