4G LTE Data Only SIM marketed as GSM SIM
FreedomPop SIM requires a use of FreedomPop App, which is available only on iOS and on Android. FreedomPop website does not display this information on the front page or on product page. The SIM can connect only to data network so phone calls and messages are placed over internet, which is identical to Google Voice. As a free backup phone to keep at home, it is okay; but as a personal phone, it is a Google Voice on prepaid data SIM--that is less reliable and more expensive. Also, the SIM only uses 4G LTE bands, so it is not ATT or TMobile compatible, but it is ATT LTE and TMobile LTE compatible. Therefore, 3G Phones or Basic Phones will not even recognize the SIM.

Bought online they had made me an account and had it all set up before mailing it to me it took longer to mail out and recieve only cause I'm inpatient when it comes to that stuff. They emailed me my account information in advance and I was able to change my number free before even recieveing the product. They had a little booklet with it and had step by step on how to set it up it was so easy. Only problem I'm having is the service can only be used on wifi I've only had it for less than a day and I haven't gone anywhere to test this out but while at home I only can have it connect to wifi but it's worth buying I'm very pleased with it

Remove the APN Profile after using this service or it will block roaming cell data
Service is decent, but calls are frequently delayed in ringing, or don't ring. You get more than you pay for in this case. The trick with this service is to immediately turn off all the extra "free" features and be vigilant as features appear to randomly turn on again later. They make their money on the extras. Great for data like Whatsapp or texting. One big warning is that it installs an APN "Profile" on your iphone. It took me 3 days with TMobile tech support to figure out that was blocking me from using roaming cell data in Canada long after I had removed the FP SIM and put my TMobile SIM back. So if you test this out on a phone, be sure to remove the profile from your Carrier settings after removing the SIM.

Beware of hidden fees and limitations
This wouldn't be too bad if it were truly free, but FreedomPop has an automatic top-up "feature" that charges you $15 per month automatically; you must pay $5 for the privilege of turning this "feature" off. Read on for more limitations and observations. This is actually a SIM from UK carrier Three that roams onto networks in whatever country you want to use this in, although I purchased this with the intent on using it only in the US (but I like the option to use it globally). Based on my testing with an iPad Air 2, iPhone 4 (AT&T GSM model), iPhone 5 (again, AT&T GSM) and iPhone SE (unlocked GSM) in the US it will choose AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon automatically. However, you are limited to 3G speeds only, and it seems 3G coverage isn't what it used to be — I tested this in New York City in an area where I get complete LTE coverage on AT&T and T-Mobile. Using the FreedomPop SIM in my iPad and iPhones 5 and SE, I got only 3 signal dots/bars when choosing AT&T and 2 on T-Mobile. I wasn't able to use this at all in my iPhone 4 because it seems there is no way to edit the APN on iOS 7. It seems that after this month is over, FreedomPop will be deactivating my account because I refuse to pay $5 to have them *not* do something (I was skeptical of this so I used a prepaid card to sign up for this that had a balance of less than $5). If you are in the US and want to use this on a tablet, check out T-Mobile's "free 200 MB data for life" plan instead — at least that provides LTE service and is actually free.

Italy trip enabler
Worked perfectly for my Italy trip with an unlocked Amazon BLU R1. Even in the mountains of Assisi, we had signal.
