Im very happy with my purchase because i believe i got a good deal for the price.I bought this mat to use as a runner, across the carpeted room that leads to the outside.Im not sure why others are complaining so much about several things, which i have listed and explained below:1) the smell: yes, it smells bad but ONLY if you're actually putting your nose right next to it. So, all the bad reviews that said it had a terrible chemical smell right out of the box are not true. I didnt smell anything, out of the box, so i decided to get real close to see what reviewers were complaining about. So, in other words, you wont notice the smell unless you're looking for it.2) needs to be aired out: Because of these reviews I decided to leave it (rolled up but standing) in the garage for 3 days. I really don't think it needed to be aired out but I decided to take the safe route, on this one. I have small kids and didnt want to fill up the room with any smell. After the 3 days, I unrolled it and put it where i wanted it, i didnt have any problems with smell. None! Again, not sure why others are complaining saying it fills the room with a nasty smell. I think they might be way too sensitive because i have a pretty good nose, when it comes to smells, and i cant get a scent off of it.3) doesn't lay flat: although i can see why some say this, i think they are being overly picky. Im a pretty picky person but as you can see on my pics, it lays pretty flat. Yes, it is not perfectly straight (because it came rolled) but it also doesnt cause a tripping hazard like others have mentioned. Maybe it would for those that have trouble walking. Look at the pic and you can see for yourself how it lays. I didnt have to do anything to it, but unroll it, either. It's laid pretty flat from the beginning (i.e. it hasnt been there for days/weeks/months).4) the corners stick up: i had no trouble with the corners sticking up. Especially because the mat came rolled with the pokey-side in. So the corners lay flat, as well.Overall, i am very satisfied with my purchase. It does the job just fine. The only reason I give this mat a 4-star is because the spikes do not dig into my carpet, as much as I had hoped, so it does allow movement of the mat. I don't see this as a major negative but it is a bit inconvenient to have to move the mat back to where i want it. You can see the type of carpet I have, in pics. Its a thin carpet so it may do a better job of holding on to a thicker carpet/rug. Other than this I am happy that I didnt spend more money on a mat that wouldve given me the same performance as this one.

It is true. The odor from this thing is distinctly skunk-like. I already cut it to shape. Can't return it. I probably will have to use something else though. Almost a month in the thing smells less but not gone. Wiped it with Windex. Nothing helps. Stay away from this.

I have wood floors so I don't need this for a carpet runner but if you flip it over so the little spikes are turned up you can lay it across your couch so your large dog with arthritis can't climb up on the couch. He is a stubborn bull headed dog and refuses to believe he can no longer easily get up there and then he falls off when he tries to get down. More vet bills! Now he has to sleep on his huge memory foam bed. Poor thing. Bless his heart. No really, you can easily cut this to size and now that he knows he can't get up there I have removed it. I'm sure this works wonderfully on carpet also.

Smells so bad, even after two weeks spread out on my carpet. It smells like dog poop. Literally. When I first opened it I looked around to see if my puppy had an accident or if he farted. Figured he farted. Nope. Spread it out and realized it was the plastic mat. Been over a month now, two weeks spread out, then two more rolled up in a closet because we couldn’t stand the smell any more. It still smells. I bought two and the frost one dissipated within 2 days. Works well, easily wiped and cleaned. Stays in place very well. Sadly we can only use one since the smell is that bad with the second one. If I went if the first one alone it would be five stars. I washed it with soap and water. It smelled still so I soaked it in bleach. Still smells. 3 stars because it is otherwise still totally usable. But for now it sits in the closet.

After years of coping with dirt, mud, debris, and cleaning up after sick animals in my laundry room/mudroom, it finally occurred to me to replace my braided runner with a rubber-backed, washable runner (from Amazon) and cover it with this clear plastic runner. So far so good. In wet weather (had three inches of rain overnight) I also put newspapers and flattened cardboard from boxes over the entire floor to absorb the drippings from soaked dogs, cats, barn boots & slickers. Later I recycle the plain cardboard as mulch in the garden. It keeps weeds under control and when it rots, it adds organic material to my sandy clay.

I bought this to use under my bed as I have a kitty who loved to up chuck there lol now I have no worries. Cut it in half so I had 2 pieces to fit between the center bed legs and worked very well. Not what it was meant for but it sure solved my problem. No more carpet stains

This was surprisingly perfect. We got this for the carpet in front of our front door to protect front dirty shoes and pet messes.Once we cut it to fit, we placed a bunch of heavy object all over it to get and help it stick in the carpet a bit better and that seemed to help a ton.It still flops up sometimes but for the price it does a great job! And we have plenty of the mat left over for other projects as needed.
