Songbird Essentials SEIA30024 Seed Hoop Seed Catcher & Platform Feeder

Best seed catcher I have every purchased. Expensive, but worth it because it will last for years. Very well-made and sturdier, so it stays in place and doesn't tip over with a bird sitting on it like my other ones did.

We bought this net for our squirrel buster, since we had a bunch of sparrows come and throw out seeds they didn't want. We wanted those seeds to be still available for other birds and animals without going bad on the ground. We don't use all the string attachments, because it was a little too obstructive. Managed to attach the net without triggering the squirrel block of this bird feeder by using zip-ties on the bottom as loops for the hooks. We also attached one of the sides to the pole so it doesn't spin too much. It's been working well, I like that the squirrels have access to the seeds that the birds didn't want or dropped by mistake. It has survived snow storms this winter. We did detach it from the feeder during snow events so the weight does not snap the strings. It's easy to clean: best is to use a brush and some water to scrub out any seeds that get stuck in-between the net.

Fabulous! These have saved our lawn! No more heaps of mouldering sunflower seeds! We have tonnes of goldfinches which throw half eaten seeds everywhere... these seed hoops have stopped that! Much better than all our home made attempts You need to angle the feeder pole a bit if hanging 2 next to each other so they fit. They aren’t exactly sturdy as made of lightweight net, but they have a rigid outer ring. They’ve blown around and not been wrecked! Husband tied garden wire to the bottom of the feeder. We hang the seed hoop from there. If you brush them out daily they are easy to clean, don’t let sunflower sends build up and start to ferment though! All in all, expensive but excellent.

I bought this to stop the birds dropping sunflower seeds on plants and grass below my bird feeder. This is because sunflowers are allelopathic – they exude toxins that stop nearby plants from growing and actually kills some. The grass under the feeder was especially affected. It's not very attractive to look at, but it does the job and catches a large proportion of the seeds the birds drop. It's easy to clean out, much easier than trying to clean up the seeds on the lawn. Given the materials involved it does seem quite expensive, but it does do the job

This has worked great. Really helps keep excess spillage off the ground.
