NEW TO BEARD PRODUCTS, BUT REALLY LIKE THIS STUFF
I am an older guy who recently decided to grow a medium-size Van Dyke type beard (#3 setting on my new Remington trimmer) and this is my first venture into the world of beard products. This shampoo lathers nicely and the coal tar scent is light, masculine and dissipates almost immediately after you wash it out, which is fine for me. I definitely feel it makes the hair softer, more pliant, and with fewer stray hairs popping-out, as well as eliminating the itch I sometimes experienced before using it. I also like the fact it is about as all-natural as they come, as I have had some facial allergy issues in the past, and reasonably-priced. Coupled with their Mountain Beard Oil, which I like, too, new boar's hair brush, beard comb and Remington trimmer, my beard is now presentable to the world, lol!Found the bottle's inner dispenser top constantly coming out when the top is unscrewed, which is a hassle in the shower, as many others have commented here, as well, but can be avoided if you only tighten the cap gently until it no longer turns, but not torque or over-tighten it. I think this prevents the cap from making contact with the inner dispenser piece and pulling it out, at least it works that way for me.

A lot of lather, timber scent not the best
This was the first beard wash I’ve tried (previously bought the beard balm in lime sage and am happy with it). The beard wash makes a lot of lather, probably too much for me as it’s hard to wash out of my beard. I use it a couple times a week when I shower but haven’t seen any noticeable difference in making my beard softer. I’m not really a fan of the timber scent. It’s a little too medicinal for my taste, I prefer more “perfumy” scents more like sandalwood, leather, sage. I didn’t see the lime sage scent available in the beard wash but I would prefer something like that.

Recommended for my man!
I bought this for my husband who constantly steals my shampoo for himself...He LOVES this, he has been using it a couple weeks now and notices a difference for sure. I love the smell, it isn't one of those overpowering smells that everyone in a room can smell when you walk in. I go in for a kiss and the scent is there, but not crazy strong. Perfect! Neither of us are crazy about long lists of chemicals in our products, and this one was short and comprehensive. Definitely recommended.

Turned out bad:(
So I love the scent on these washes and I love that the ingredients are natural.. however.. I got this for my boyfriend and his gorgeous ginger beard, and he developed these little bumps(like itchy hives that look like pimples) on his finger tips. He had to go to the hospital and get steroids prescribed to him to make them go away.. we were both terrified that he got some type of blood disease and it turns out,, it was just an allergic reaction:( so if you have sensitive skin please be careful!

Calm down Karen
I’ve only had this shampoo long enough to use it twice so I feel like it’s kind of early to force a review but, no matter, Amazon will beg you to make a decision based on little to no actual personal knowledge of a product. I think it smells great! As far as cleanliness, I keep my sh:;+ pretty well clean but this stuff seems to do a decent job for the last 2 days(that’s as as long as I’ve had this product). My suggestion is for Amazon allow the customer to actually spend enough time with a product before turning into a needy girlfriend that wants some kind of commitment. It’s ridiculous and she might lose my interest if she’s not careful.....

Moving to next product
First positive is that it smells great. And that's really all i can say.I'm a ginger and have pretty sensitive skin and this product gives my skin a mild burn that isn't washed away. Also as another reviewer pointed out, it goes on kinda like tar and feels thick/grippy when wet. Once you dry it then it feels fine. Also for me the irritation started before i even finished working the shampoo into my whole beard.

Good Product
I've been on a mission to locate the best all-around beard wash available. I think I've found it with this product. While there are others available that work relatively well for smoothing and softening my beard, this one is thus far the best combination of cleaning and softening agents. Others have a tendency to leave a residue after several days of continuous use that leave the beard weighted down and somewhat course. This one does not. It rinses cleaner, and leaves my beard soft, manageable, and smooth. It requires little in the way of extra conditioners to achieve the desired effect. For my beard, detangling is a major problem. I occasionally use a detangling conditioner not designed specifically for beards. It is not as much of a necessity with this wash.

A solid beard wash for a good price.
I’ve used many products with my beard over the years. I’ve always felt that Mountaineer is a solid value brand. It isn’t the best, but they don’t bend you over to give you a quality product. I got the Coal scent because that’s the oil scent of theirs I have used before. I like it a lot. It left my beard feeling very smooth. Do not use a beard wash, or any type of shampoo, if you are not going to condition it or use a beard oil directly following. You’d think that was common sense, but it isn’t. I use beard wash twice, maybe three times, a week.I haven’t seen the cap issues that others on here have listed. Maybe the cap has been changed between here and there.
