I feel the texture of the paper, the vibrant infusions of color in a delicate floral pattern across a shoulder. I smell the deliciousness of old paper and leather, and see the masculine forearm of a hot guy.Ink, in general, is a word that "evokes" for me. This book had the same effect. The story, woven through the perspectives of Emmie and Ox, gives us the chance to see a developing attraction from two perspectives. It's the entrepreneurial spirit of starting up something new and totally different - doing something that you can't undo. It's the bravery of striking out on your own, in spite of your doubts and the doubts of others.This second foray into contemporary romance kept my attention from the first words. Emmie is such a relatable character - she's insecure without being whiny and self-deprecating without being exhausting. Ox is at that difficult point in life many of us experience where we battle doing for those we love - and doing for ourselves. He's kind and flawed and really needs someone to lead him.The secondary characters are DELIGHTFUL. I genuinely hope Ms. Hunter treats us to a full series starring this array, because they make you want to wander Metlin and check out every shop on Main.I have been a fan of EH's since the first book of hers I read, and this is a completely different direction without losing the depth of description and lovable cast. She knows how to wind us in and take us to the goal line. This book does not have the intense climax or dramatic tendrils of her paranormal novels, but I think that is the point. I absolutely love tattoo parlor and opposite attract novels as there is something so refreshing about two different people coming together who may not (at first glance) have alot in common but through HOT chemistry, kindness and friendship they eventually get together. I loved Emmie and Ox. He was so sexy and refreshing. I loved the Old town feel of Metlin and could not get enough of Emmie, Ox and the entire cast of characters!Emmie Elliot is back in her small hometown of Metlin, California and is about to make the drastic decision of keeping and re-opening her Grandmother's bookstore and relocating her life. What she needs though is a hook for mass appeal. Enter Miles "Ox" Oxford - tattoo artist extraordinaire looking to run his own tattoo shop. But will Emmie be able to partner with this sexy AF mountain of a man without climbing him like a tree? Or will their business arrangement remain strictly platonic without any fun between the lines?I really really loved this book. Any story about a diehard booklover with witty bookism t-shirts is a soul-sister at heart and my kind of heroine. Emmie was fun, sassy and full of hidden facets I loved discovering as we learned more about her. This story was the most perfect low-angst , compelling love story. I loved the slowburn-esque feel and the strong friendships and connections throughout the book. It was a great feel good romance and I am definitely invested in more love stories on 7th and Main in the future! Hunter is one of my top five authors, but I avoid buying a book if I can read it on library ebooks or Kindle Unlimited. I’m retired and read a lot.I make exceptions for several authors, Hunter being one. That’s one reason I’m a bit disappointed with INK.Pros: cool town, great friend support and characters, bookshop being rebranded with love. Emmie is an interesting character who shows her bookstore knowledge and ability to learn and grow. I liked the addition of her relationship with Spike and her growing tattoo that was secret.Cons: Ox’s lack of communication skills. He really loves his family and wants to support them, he needs to step up and talk to Emmie and his family, big discussions. Emmie, too, should have been better about getting in touch with him. Somehow I missed why she was emotionally vulnerable, her mom?Another con for me is that it’s a straight contemporary romance. I love the paranormal romances Hunter writes. The IRIN series is a top example.
