Review: This book traces the years in which Team Lotus went from being one of the powerhouses in F1, to being an also ran by the end of the 1980's. As the author states, there was not one main reason for the team's demise, but rather a 'death by a thousand cuts' that led to their downfall. Just like in his previous book, 1994, the author clearly did his homework and examines the various reasons that led to Lotus' decline....the choice of Ketteringham Hall as the team's HQ was probably the initial catalyst...the De Lorean affair which meant the team couldn't risk investing in more up to date facilities....the strategy of investing in a no.1 star driver/no.2 barely fit to be in F1 driver pairing to make up for the car's flaws....the ill advised switch from Renault to Honda power (and thus losing the facility of the St. Cyr wind tunnel in France)....all of these played their contribution, but none on their own were catastrophic. The chapters examine each of these aspects, as well as the team's struggles during the 80's when they had years where they over achieved, and thus the rot that had set in wasn't clearly visible. All in all a very compelling read and a page turner. The author has indicated this book could be part of a trilogy concerning Team Lotus, and there sure will be space in my F1 library for the next 2 installments for sure!
Review: Another great book from the author, fascinating and extremely in depth. I always enjoy Ibrar's books. No exception with this one. If you're a fan of F1 or Lotus it's an absolute must. However, I can't give it a full 5 stars purely because of the lack of proofing in the book - typos, punctuation and differences in fonts. They are detail points and perhaps a little harsh to highlight, but it does make a difference. In terms of content though, it's exceptional.

Firstly, I'll say that I've made a few allowances for the fact that this is an 'enthusiast-produced' book, so I've turned a blind eye to a some typos. Having said that, the book is a highly readable account of Team Lotus' decline in F1 from Colin Chapmans' untimely death. High- and low-points are discussed in clear chronological order with plenty of relevant colour illustrations, and sources clearly attributed. As a distinct 'plus', it's always fascinating to read about Ayrton Senna who features very prominently. I was sorry to come to the end of this book. Recommended !
