Engaging and Fun
I’d probably give this book 4.5 ⭐️ if I couldThis book is the first is a new series in the Magiford Supernatural City World. You don’t need to have read the first series, but it would definitely help understand some of the supporting characters and the overall world in which the series is set. There is less world building because of the previous books. We met Leila in the previous series as she lives next door the Drake estate. She is half human and half fae but has been raised in the human world and doesn’t have a vast knowledge of her magic. She is aware of her fae heritage and doesn’t want anything to do with it. Sadly, avoiding the fae isn’t to be possible because the night mares have bonded with her and named her Queen of Night Court, much to her and her Court’s dismay. After surviving an assassination attempt she is forced to move to the Night Court estate in Magiford and try to rebuild her decrepit Court, which is falling apart in both the human and fae realms. Badly in debt and magically failing Leila has inherited a difficult situation, especially when you add in the death threats, shrinking wards marking her kingdom in the fae realm and trying to find a consort before she can be crowned.I really enjoyed this book. It was amusing in places, intriguing in others and the characters were interesting to learn all about. The magic system is different from the fae than it is for the wizards in the previous series and that is explored in this book, though I’m sure that there is still plenty to be revealed about it in later books.Leila is a great character. She is stubborn, inventive, compassionate and determined. I also like the people she chooses to surround herself with and the affection she has for the creatures of her Court gives me the warm and fuzzies. There is something so appealing about the quality of this author’s writing. It’s not the most intense and exciting of plots, but you still get drawn in because the author is a good story teller. I can’t wait to read what happens next as the battle she has to fight for her Court’s heart and their place in the world is most definitely ongoing.

Superb
The story is as good as all the rest of this lady's books. It moves at a great place ,there are frights and giggles in good measure, and no disappointments. I am impatiently waiting for the sequel.

Love this!
Amazing world expansion, loved the plot, the characters and the humour. It was a proper roller coaster and I read it in a day. Km Shea is one of my absolute favourite authors because her books are funny, clean and just around fantastic. Can’t wait for the next book!!

4.5 stars
I enjoyed the book, the flow of the writing and the storyline. It was an engaging urban fantasy genre story, more so focusing on the female main character (FMC) development of becoming queen. the romance aspect hinted in the blurb is very slow burn in this book, however that didnt detract from the story as I was more intrigued about all the other things going on. I am going to buy the next book now!

Crown of Shadows
This is the first series I’ve read of K.M. Shea & I have to say I was hooked! Really well written series I found funny, felt the heartache & respected the main characters grit & determination. There’s even a slow burn romance building too. I get the idea from these, there are other series that proceed these, so think I’ll have to take a look at other books by this author for those.

New favourite author!
I love this book and have immediately brought the second book. But I thought I'd write a review while I wait for the book to download. This book is great! It the story of Leia ( or however you spell her name) who i first met through another series of km.shea. But I love this book and her sense of humour. If you like magic/ vamps/ and supernatural creatures. Give this book a try.

Great book
Good story well written. The author has an excellent grasp of her fantasy, each area is fully described, the dialogue keeps the flow going. Plenty of action lots to keep the pages turning.
