Home School Art Studio Program DVD with Lindsey Volin 2nd Grade

We have a 1st grader and 4th grader, so we wanted to get something they both could do together. Once this DVD-ROM came in the mail, we opened it and immediately started to use it. We already had most of the art supplies necessary to complete the projects, which are really basic art supplies. There is a file on the DVD that you can open on your computer that has a detailed list of materials and steps for each project. I find this useful when setting up each lesson. The great thing about this program is that you can set all the materials out for your kids, put DVD in TV or computer (we use a laptop on the table), hit play, and let them go! This program can be done independently.Additionally, this program incorporates literature, art history, discusses art careers, and fuses multiple art genres into the lessons. Art lessons in my area would cost us hundreds of dollars (and hundreds more in fuel to get there) for and equivalent of 18 lessons. So this DVD is a great value! My children really love this DVD. They begged to do art each day while we worked through the projects. She presents everything very clearly and efficiently. If your kids already do a lot of art at home, then you will have most materials handy. The children take about 3 times as long as she does to complete each step, so we often paused the DVD and then continued when everyone is caught up. My second grader needed very little extra assistance, and even my kindergartener did most of the projects independently. We are going to purchase more of this series. I knocked off a star only because I wish there was a little more variety in the materials used, and a bit more discussion of art theory concepts.

I don't have an artistic bone in my body, but I knew I wanted to expose my children to art as a part of our homeschool curriculum; this DVD is wonderful! I helped my son with the first couple of lessons, but he now does the art projects on his own and loves it! We use the 2nd grade one, but I'll definitely be ordering the Kindergarten one for my little guy.

My girls love being able to do art new projects by themselves. She is a great teacher and is very enjoyable to watch and learn from.

Good projects, but no list of materials needed for each project so you have to watch in advance to have the correct materials gathered before you children start the lesson. Also, the camera angles are not the best for seeing what she is doing. Finally, the company failed to respond after repeated attempts to contact them to get a materials list.

We love Home Art studio. Just finishing up their 1st grade dvd and intending to buy 2nd grade. My kids absolutely love it. And the level is so spot on, that children need minimal or no help whatsoever!
