The best answer is to decide which works best for you. Even an angle mount is popular in some applications. Mine also doubles as a towel bar, so I mounted it horizontally. Now, structurally, it's going to be the same...find the stud...and if needed, use the mounting kit..(priced separately, but worth it.)
