Cry Havoc: Book One of the Havoc Journals

Fascinating mystery, hard to put down!
The mysterious and unpredictable illness that plagues this society and the way it affects the main character, Daine, and his family is moving and compelling. The further I got into the book the harder it was to put down. The only thing I could wish for more is greater insight into Daine's family and the dynamics that are often alluded to, but not quite satisfied in this first book. I also was left feeling like there could have been more development in the relationship between him and the friends he meets at school, but then, perhaps Havoc has something to do with why there wasn't much development in the first place. I would definitely recommend this book to teenagers and adults alike, but I feel that it would be particularly interesting to teenage boys who would relate to Daine and some of his struggles and how he overcomes them. With such an abrupt ending I am looking forward to the next book and hoping for answers as badly as Daine is!
