Is there a way I can polish it and prevent that from happening in the future?** A: It is aluminum, which doesn't do well in the dishwasher. Polish it up best you can, try a green scotch brite, and don't put it in the dishwasher again. I just wipe mine off with a paper towel or cloth and that's enough . It doesn't really require that much washing. **Q: where is it place?** A: To press the coffee in the espresso coffee holder.
