When I first read the blurb for this book, I was a bit concerned whether it would be a bit of a downer, but this mega talented author truly did this story justice and did not sugar coat the tougher moments either. I appreciated the author’s sensitive depiction here of showcasing Ellie’s recovery in real time throughout. It was a slow, often painstaking journey that Ellie underwent as she evolved from traumatized victim to a whole, vibrant woman again. There were no easy fixes here. She was treated in the hospital, got intensive therapy, had her good days and bad. But the hero was there every step of the way. To soothe her. Shelter her. Nurture and care for her. And kiss her breathless until her toes curled!What I truly relished about this romance, aside from the sensitive depiction of a kidnap victim’s slow path to recovery, was that at its core this was a love story about two social misfits who embrace love against unspeakable odds. And of course one of the big draws is the hero!! Geek is totally swoony these days, and Zane is such a unique billionaire! I truly adored him in all his big, brawny, sweetly awkward splendor! He is kind, handsome, fiercely protective and blunt to a fault, a bona fide genius who charms the reader in his own off kilter way! And did I mention hot? Broodingly sexy, mouthwateringly yummy, make my princess parts tingle hot!As for Ellie, she is such a strong, courageous, resilient heroine! But she has to learn to lean on others—particularly the hero--to help her heal her emotional and physical scars incurred from her horrifying ordeal. And true to his word, Zane literally brings her back to life again. This couple is just magical, in large part because they are two square pegs who fit so perfectly together! The fact that Zane is not the life of the party and is socially award makes him that much more attractive to Ellie, and I also love how the heroine has her self-esteem issues to grapple with as well. But through the hero’s tireless support and devotion she not only gets physically stronger but learns to conquer her fears and ultimately thrive.This couple truly shines because they embrace each other’s differences and accept one another for who they were…not who society expects them to be. I also enjoyed the slow, sweet burn between Zane and Ellie. They don’t immediately hop into bed, and when they finally do consummate their union, it is incredibly special and MEANS something! Their chemistry is an intoxicating blend of raw carnal possession and gentle tenderness.
