    Not what I thought it would be.  And I thought it would be funny.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. I was vaguely aware of Jim Norton‘s work, but mostly by way of Doug Stanhope who is a colleague and something of a friend. They both engage in somewhat raunchy, and honest Carmody which comes directly from their personal lives, so I thought it would be somewhat similar to Stanhope’s work. Big mistake. Norton comes across as profoundly homophobic, and is more concerned with being disgusting than funny or profound. Where is Stanhope  demonstrates genius and a general sense of self-awareness,  Norton simply seems deranged and obsessed with ensuring that his audience doesn’t think he is homosexual. He seriously mentions it every other sentence. We get it! You’re into the ladies! MoveOn and say something funny or tell us  something interesting about your life.

I'm not sure that I've ever laughed as much while reading a book. Jim adds enough hilarious jokes into every sentence that every story is amazing. The only downside is that the whole book is mostly a stream of consciousness rambling, so it reads like a diary. But a hilarious diary.

Hysterical!! Not for the sensitive, but this book is Jim Norton at his best (and most raw).  This is a comedian who is not afraid to take on the politically correct, and is NOT your typical Hollywood treehugging, Starbucks drinking....(well OK, he does drink Starbucks) idiot. While the comedy is raw, it is also relevant in today's politically correct, "try not to offend anybody," world. Mr. Norton is who he is and he makes no apologies about it.  He frequents prostitutes, and does many other act that most people would consider vile. I however, think it is hilarious and makes for a great read!!
