It’s naturally found in dairy products, breads, processed meats, eggs, and fat based desserts. In the body it is naturally found in sweat glands and the intestine. According to the Encyclopedia of Microbiology (third edition, 2009) propionic acid inhibits growth in molds and various bacteria’s and is used as a preservative especially baked goods in animal feed and grain. According to the Encyclopedia of Toxicology (third edition, 2014) and propionic acid is generally regarded as safe by the US food and drug administration and has shown a little toxicity in humans and other organisms. **Q: Do these contain Suntheanine brand of L-theanine? it is not shown on the label, but is in the description.** A: You, know I asked my vet who is also supportive of natural supplements, I sent her a photo of the label and she told me these are safe for my Great Dane. They work great, and my dogs are my kids if it’s not healthy and safe , I don’t invest in it for them. I'm very pleased with how effective they've been for my recently adopted cat who has significant anxiety/nervousness issues, sometimes resulting in him hiding excessively and sometimes leading him to be overly aggressive during play. These chews, which he really enjoys as much as a regular treat, seemed to take the edge off for him from the first day of using them (note that I don't give them to him every day, just during times of noticeably greater stress). They appeared to help him feel more comfortable in coming out from under the bed - where he was hiding all day - and sitting with me instead, as well as calming him down a tad when he's getting a little too rambunctious (resulting in accidental but nonetheless painful injury to unwitting fingers!).
