I have two 6' optical cables plugged into the outputs and everything works fine - first time, every time. No setup, no fussing. Just plug everything in and it's ready to go. And don't forget to remove the tiny rubber caps from the ends of your optical cables (sold separately).Just one comment, and this isn't a negative comment. This does not come with a USB power supply. It does come with the proper USB power cable, but you need to buy the part that plugs into the wall. This is noted in the product description. These little USB power supplies are cheap and all over Amazon. So if you don't have one sitting around, order one at the same time you order this (order several and put the rest in your spare parts box).One final comment about packaging. This unit is packed in a pretty flimsy plastic sleeve and then shipped in a thin paper envelope. The first one I received arrived broken. I reported this to Amazon, and they sent me a replacement; next day delivery.
