For my rifle, no modification was needed, it fits snug and right up against the sling/bipod stud, like it was made for this rifle. I imagine the fit would be similar for most standard polymer straight stocks. Can't comment on its ability to effectively reduce recoil, but it feels very similar to the excellent recoil pad on my CVA Scout. Seems to be a good product for a good price. Probably no need to spend more $$ on the 'other' brand.
