My partner is a coffee snob but this benefits me as he makes a mean cuppa. He has multiple ways of making cups of coffee, using mostly a Mokka pot or our espresso machine. Each uses different levels of pressure to tamp the coffee to the optimum extraction compaction.Pros:• Very comfortable in your hand• Solid construction• Spring loaded adjustable tamp settings (easily adjusted by twisting the tamp plate)• The handle has a wide flanged base so you can't tamp past the rim of your coffee basket (assuming they are the same size)• All components can be removed for cleaning• Flat tamp plate for even pressureCons:• Even when set to low pressure, you still need to press very hard to get the action requiredMy partner has been a professional barista for a good few years now, and he says the pressure needed to actually tamp the coffee using this tamper is far too much for domestic machines; in his experience they would require much less as they don't have the pumping power that a commercial machine may have. However, the concept is good, and it is a handy tool for making coffee and better than the plastic ones provided with machines as standard.

If you want a barista in a proper coffee house you might notice that they have decent tampers but when you buy a coffee machine for domestic usage, the tamper is normally plasticky and flimsy. This is a good upgrade option.☑ Flat based which is normal but some prefer a convex option.☑ adjustable so you can control the compression levels to ensure better levels of consistency in the coffee.☑ nicely sized and well weighted☑ spring loaded to try to avoid over compressing the coffee.This is quite expensive and we are unsure as to whether most people could truly tell the difference so its hard to justify the expense but its woth a try. High quality tamper !I have only felt a good tamper like this one when I was working as a barista in a high rated coffee shop which I am not gonna say the name :)The tamper feels sturdy and strong ,:”seems as the tamper knows what is doing on its on and you don't need to be a pro to work with it ,he will do all the job by its own :)My coffee machine did came with its own plastic tamper attached ,but never you will get the coffee pressured on that as you get it with this.The quality of my espresso has radically improved after using this tamper and if you are a coffee lover that wants the best ,than you should definitely go for it!

This is a really good quality coffee tamper. It is heavy and feels good in the hand. It is spring loaded for even tamping and does the job very efficiently. This is very robust.The only negative comment that my husband could make was that it was cold in his hand in the morning and a wooden handle might feel warmer - The coffee machine is pretty much the first think he touches after he wakes up in the morning. Apart from that, this gets his full approval, and he is a difficult person to please

You pay more for Dualit products, but that's because they are built to a superior quality. This tamper is spring-loaded, easy to hold and works a treat in compacting the coffee. Standard dimensions, so works well on other coffee machines. Strong and durable.

Whilst this tamper may seem to be over the top, it is the perfect tool for tamping your coffee. Being a big bloke I tend to over tamp, so having this spring loaded Dualit Tamper (which is adjustable too) means I get it right every time.It is so well made I'm sure it will outlast me.A perfect gift for the person that really wants to go the extra mile with their coffee.
