Sewing Machine, XM1010, 10 Built-in Stitches, 4 Included Sewing Feet

After struggling with a much fancier sewing machine for years, which often needed to be taken in for adjustments, I decided to get a simple, easy to use and maintain machine. Am I ever glad I did! The Brother machine is light to carry, yet doesn't wiggle across the table while in use. The directions and accompanying DVD were straight and to the point. The switching from stitch to stitch is a no brainer, and threading it takes less than a minute. My husband remarked just the other day that I've sewn more in the past few weeks since the machine arrived, than I had in the past couple of years! I'm very happy I made the switch!

First, I was happily surprised at its ‘normal’ size. I was expecting something almost toy like from some of the reviews. Yes, this is a real sewing machine for real adults. It’s really easy to use, right out of the box with instructions for threading and putting the bobbin in imprinted right on the machine. It has a thread cutter too. It sews at variable speed from dead slow up to a whopping 750 stitches per minute making it perfect for most household projects. It will handle most weights of cloth up to denim and courderoy. But if you want to make canvas awnings, upholster your couch or sew thick draperies you’ll need a more heavy duty machine. Overall, extremely good value!

I was looking for something relatively inexpensive (compared to other sewing machines) but good quality (happened to order this one because needed it quickly and it was in stock). We have an older, higher end machine also but this one works just as well. Easy to use, same size as our other machine, but lighter weight. Works great. Very impressed for this price. I would recommend this for someone who wants a nice machine but doesn't want to spend too much.

I am new to using a sewing machine, and so far this one is working out OK. I like the compact size and portability. The foot controller cord is a bit short, but manageable--best to use on not too deep or too tall of a table. I am also still learning to manage the thread tension. It seems a bit finicky. You have to make sure to thread the upper and lower threads just so, or it may get caught/jammed. For all I know this may be typical. In short, it seems like a decent machine, but it's not foolproof. The manual is pretty easy to follow, with lots of clear diagrams to illustrate each step. There is an instructional DVD included but I haven't checked that out yet.

I am a brand new sewing girl and am teaching myself. So far this has been an excellent machine and the instructional video was very helpful, especially for understanding how to thread the machine. I am using youtube videos as well, but so far the machine is working very well for my beginner projects and it's very light weight and portable, which is helpful for me because I don't have a set sewing spot or crafting room and since it's small and light it can be easily stowed away. As far as beginners go, the dial showing the different stitches and patterns is very helpful. So far, I'm definitely pleased with the purchase and it's working well for all my beginner needs (hemming pants and shortening sleeves on tank tops!)

I like that it is easy to transport from place to place, easy to operate and the stitches are the same you would get from a bigger machine. I also chose this machine because of the name brand.

I have never owned a sewing machine before and was nervous to make a big purchase without being sure that I would use the machine often enough. I now have to admit that I will hunt for something to fix just to use my sewing machine! This machine is perfect for around the house repairs and extremely easy to use. I had not used a sewing machine in years but felt right at home with this product. I could not be happier with this machine as I am just learning all the tricks of the trade and do not need anything too advanced from a sewing machine.

The product was received when noted but the machine was totally destroyed along with box, now I have to pay to return it :( be careful buying used. It looks like it was dropped or something smashed it.

With care, this machine will last a long time doing everyday sewing chores. It's a very good quality item, forgiving of beginners and klutzes (I'm both) and produces decent seams and joins even if the user hasn't much experience with tension and feeds and materials. I was brand new to sewing, ham-fisted and in a bit of a rush to "get on with it" so I could hem my own pants/shorts, make my own easy-toss-on seat covers for when the van had to haul dusty, dirty "uglies" , make my own pillow cases (I am very particular in this area) and make super light grocery bags so that I could stuff them in my cargo pants and not be bothered with them til i needed them. I had no idea how complicated and skilled sewing could be til I bought this machine and started to learn. Though I nearly broke the living room picture window a few times... I learned. Thankfully this machine has kept pace with me abusing it and I fulfilled all the above projects with something just short of aplomb. It's still in perfect shape and is beckoning me to make my own lounge pants, buy some patterns and start collecting thread... Just sayin', if you need a good, all round, well constructed sewing machine, and have a budget... buy this one. You won't be sorry. I would write more, but there are so many sewing Youtubes, so little time.

Really like this machine. Instructional video was helpful. Did basic sewing so far - hemming and making curtains. For sale price of $130 is worth it.
