You can test "focus assist" in your camera, simulating a manual lens, if your camera have a setting "shoot WITHOUT lens" set it to ON. and use whatever lens you already have (even an electronic lens) then test "focus assist" function. I do use a 49mm screw metal hood on that lens that is about 3/4 to 1 inch deep. The hood does not truncate the picture (does not cause vignetting of the lens).
