puukko variant, shop and save
As a fan and user of puukko knives, I was eager to get this model into my hands. The rounded G10 scales fit my large hands to provide a secure grip, even when wet. The stainless steel blade was shaving sharp (even before stropping) and is ground and finished with obvious care, plus the spine is squared so it will strike a ferro rod and make maya dust with ease. Food prep, feather sticks, and general camp and woodcraft will be this knife's forte.I call this knife a puuko variant for two reasons, first it is a slight drop point rather than a straight spine, and second the grind is hollow, not scandi. This knife is great as packaged but could be even better if Marttiini would choose to grind a scandivex edge onto it, IMHO.I would buy it again or recommend it to a friend with one caveat, check the prices compared to other vendors as you may save $20 or more.

Blade chipped bad steel
This knife is the perfect size, shape, handle, etc., etc.The problem: China Steel! When I received the knife I stropped it on leather with green compound. I own dozens of knives for decades. This is not my first BBQ.The blade chipped while stropping!!!!! No BS.So, I painstakingly reprofiled the edge. While testing the edge by cutting paper, not cardboard, paper, it chipped again! Ahhhhh! So, I ran it through the my KO Worksharp and took off a couple of mm.It seems to be OK? I can't trust the steel!Note: I own and love several Marttiini knives with their Inox steel. Never, Never had a problem. Never! They made a huge mistake using 8cr China steel!Marttiini needs to redo this knife. Inox steel and a scandi grind. - It would be GOLD!!
