1" with bungee cord inside for great stretch relief when dog pulls and a metal clasp that go into your seat belt just like the ones in your car great for pet safety with enough room for your pet to sit up or lay down in comfort highly recommend i give it a 5 star rating check out the body harness that goes with it!!

Is it a good leash for very strong dogs?

Yes it handles my very active 100lbs golden retriever
