I started using Delsym as a recovering alcoholic because it was one of the few alcohol free cough suppressants. For me, a dose usually lasts more like 8 hours before I begin to cough some. But I still get suppressed effects for longer. I always have Delsym on hand lately because I have had a chronic cough as a result of Whooping cough. If this can suppress Whooping cough, it should work for anyone with any cough. The only thing I dislike about it is the taste. Neither the orange nor the grape are very good, at least to me.
