The Walking Dead Volume 20: All Out War Part 1 (Walking Dead, 20)

I watched the TV show first (caught up as of 3/6/2016) before reading and holy crap these are awesome
I've purchased all volumes up to 22 and the TV show has just about caught up to wear I am in the novels. These books are friggen awesome. I don't read much and my buddy lent me VOL 1 after he knew I liked the show. Well, I burned through the first one and then just went on a tear buying 4 volumes at a time...the price is pretty good for what you get out of these. $9-$15 is the range I've paid per novel, I'm not sure why they aren't the same but anyways, I keep buying them none the less. The story was written before the TV Show and the show follows the story but there is some differences. The written story is more violent and graphic then the tv show but the tv show does a decent job of sticking with main ideas. I've noticed that certain plot things that happen in the book also happen in the show but there is a unique twist like a different character it happens to or something like that. Which makes reading these volumes great cuz I have some idea of where the story is going (after having watched all tv episodes) but there are still surprises. If you like the TV show and haven't read these, give it a try and you will get a whole new experience of the Walking Dead story. I'm putting this same review under every volume I've purchased (1-22) so people can see it. go buy these!

brutal and very realistic to what it would be like trying to survive in a world like that
I started reading the comics after I learned the TV series was based on the comics series. While there are some similarities, the TV series is very different from the comics. This is definitely an adult comics series. It is very graphic, brutal and very realistic to what it would be like trying to survive in a world like that. There's a lot of profanity; which gets on my nerves, but sadly so many ppl feel the need to talk like that; however; the plot keeps me interested and I look past it. Many of our loved ones and friends just wouldn't make it and the comic series realistically reveals this. Not sure if I will look at the TV series the same; but at the same time I would not watch the TV series if it were just like the comics. Why would I buy the comic series if it were the same as the TV series. I am anxiously awaiting the Walking Dead Volume 21: All Out War Part 2 and the other volumes to follow.

Life After the Zombie Apocalypse is Nasty, Brutish, and Short
I’ll start this review the same way I started my review of Volume 19—WOW. After a weak stretch post-prison, The Walking Dead is firmly back on track with the Alexandria Safe-Zone/Negan storyline. The battle lines have been set and, as the title suggests, an all-out war starts between Negan’s faction and the Alexandria Safe-Zone and its allies. Don’t let the Part 1 stop you (although at this point Part 2 has been out for a while): Vol. 20 ends on one hell of a climax AND cliffhanger (too often we get the latter without the former).

Half the comic book is MISSING!
Lot of blank pages although I tried to redownload and sync my Kindle content. Got robbed on this. Had a few pages I could read then many blank pages then a few pages then blanks. WTF?!

All out War pt 1
Rick really shines. He proves once again that he's a great leader. He organizes,he cares, and knows just when to get brutal. Taking Negan by surprise was genius, but I don't understand why Holly sacrificed herself. Maybe she wants revenge for Abraham or she just wants it all over. Maggie is another standout. She takes the reign of the Hilltop. Ezekiel has suffered some horrible losses, and he's a little unhinged. Hopefully Michonne gets him back in line. Another great volume!

Great read, highly recommend the series if you like the genre.
It's a great read. I'm a big fan of the series. I will not rate each volume separately or go into the story but I do recommend the series. I will copy and paste this review for each volume.

Another amazing volume of the Walking Dead
Another amazing volume of the Walking Dead. This volume brings a lot of action and combat into the Walking Dead, more than seen before, and sees the Negan & Saviours arc coming to a close. Definitely recommended.

Thumbs Up!
This is the only volume of The Walking Dead to be labelled as part one of something. A subtle clue that things are about to change - or another marketing guru’s great idea. Like you aren’t going to buy the next volume, and the next, and the next.Kirkman does a great job of showing you the scale of what is going to be The Walking Dead’s mano-a-mano conflict. Not just in terms of numbers but the ideologies at stake here. Both Rick and Negan see the folly of conflict but neither has it within them to back down. Each gives their own version of Henry V’s speech to their followers. The dead only have one weapon but when humans go to war the tactics and arms are far more devastating. By the end you are wondering if anyone will be left standing when the smoke clears. We lose some people here but as readers we have learnt not to grow attached to the new people we meet so loss doesn’t have the impact it once did.The art is fabulous. On first reading it is so subtle and elegant that you don’t notice just how skilled Adlard is. But going back it is easy to see that it is so in tune with the story that it appears invisible. There is great work going on with the visuals and everything is running like clockwork.Thumbs Up!

Walking Dead is back to its best!
This was one of my favourite volumes since the prison ark. I would say the only thing I don't like about it is the constant running back and forth. I think that is the only negative of the T.V show, but it seems to have crept into the book a little. It is not a big negative at all though. The story is fast paced. The action is great. The author tells the story in a slightly different way half-way through, which I really liked. It gave a different feel to the whole thing. I am very excited about the next book. This is still my favourite series. I feel like the last few volumes have been slow and dragging a little, but this book sort of showed why that had to happen. Everything is coming together and I can't wait to see where it goes. Like always the book ended on a good cliff hanger.

What can you say about these amazing graphic novels except they leave you wanting more
What can you say about these amazing graphic novels except they leave you wanting more! I usually buy the compendiums but then I got impatient and started buying the volumes too. I love the development of characters and addictive plot. Kirkman is a genius, let's hope The Walking Dead never ends. Volume 20 is as gripping as ever, complete with tiger action too. It's building up to something BIG!

Up at volume 20 now and this story is petering ...
Up at volume 20 now and this story is petering out. I am hoping that this series is brought to a respectable end soon. Since it's part 1, called All Out War and Kirkman has moved onto a new comic Outcast...I am going to predict that volume 2 part 2 finishes the series.
