I was a little hesitant to try another pistol grip ball head as the one Manfrottto I head would slip even when mounted with a light mirrorless. Right out of the box this thing is impressive, like an old Mercedes from the sixties, heavy, machine turned, and big. My 5D and Olympus E3 kits with heavy lenses mount perfectly and stay pointed at what I want them to. Now, it's up to you how much resistance is in the movement, there is an adjusting screw (takes a small allen wrench) and the easier the flow, the less weight it can handle and vice versa. Not perfect for panning big lenses at the track or maybe tracking birds in flight, unless you turn that screw well out. It would be nice if the adjustment screw could be replaced with something having a knurled knob but I doubt they come that small. It's tall, though, so when I use it on my old Bogen 3011 I don't extend the legs fully, (but then I'm short). This mount is very easy to use, extremely well built and rock solid on my old Bogen.

I ordered 2 extra release plates for my Ravelli APGL4 Tripod (w Adjustable Pistol Grip Head) so they can stay on my camera and the other on my 70-200 lens. They are a perfect fit. They are very durable, made of good quality materials and attach securely to the camera and lens. It slides on the tripod head easy and fast to connect my camera/lens properly to the tripod.

This is a second quick release plate for my tripod. It looks and works just like the original plate that came with the tripod. I use it for quick changing between two cameras, while it is also a spare in case I lose one.

Tripod is great. Pistol grip doesn’t lock in place won’t hold with small lenses let alone any of my larger lenses.

Buy from somewhere else for a more robust item. My Canon 5D Mk IV went into pieces because of it.
