Rescusender does exactly what it is supposed to do!!
This is a great capture device which works really well for its intended purpose of capturing progress in one direction without applying teeth against the sheath of your rope . It accomplishes this by using a camming action with ridges instead of teeth. I use this device as my primary capture device for top rope soloing, with a micro traxion device as backup. I do not find the device sketchy at all, as described by another reviewer. Although i use somewhat thin ropes (9.5-9.7) i do not notice any slippage at all and i do not ever need to actually fall any distance in order to get the device to lock as described by the other reviewer. When properly rigged all i need to get the device to catch is to load the device in a downward direction usually by sitting Slowly. If the device is not catching immediately it is probably either rigged wrong or maybe the rope is too thin. I would not want to usr ropes much thinner than the ones specified in the directions on Petzels website. The only case where i have experienced anything like a fall is if the device is not extended off a chest harness. TheN you will fall until you Take up enough slack to weight the device. The only thing that might be described as sketchy is that when the device is loaded if you Then manually manipulate it upward the cam will release and you could fall. Thats why you always use a backup.

Petzl quality, function and reliability you can count on
I have purchased a lot of Petzl equipment over several decades for caving, rock climbing, tree work, mountaineering, rescue work. Rarely have I been disappointed. I bought this Rescucender specifically to serve as a “tractor” for multiplying forces on a lifting system (also used the Petzl Pro Traxion and a couple of DMM Pinto Pulleys, a set of CMI dual pulley’s, and a variety of slings and carabiners) for raising high timber rafters and plates for a two story timber frame. It multiplies my ability without overloading the lifting mechanisms. Worked easily and reliably, with smoother function than the rope prusik it replaced. I highly recommend the Rescucender for it’s operational efficiency, reliability and durability.

Bought by mistake, not ascenders?
I bought these by mistake and initiated a return while they were en route. It sounds like petzl doesnt recommend these as ascenders, so I returned them. They do look pretty sturdy and well made.

Very effective with the proper rope
Many uses; but the proper rope is important. I like that it does make sense to have a device that does not destroy the rope in use.

Great ascender
This is the best rope grab/ ascended I have ever used. No cables or strings, everything stays oriented.

Sketchy but it works. Great product.
You have to FALL on this device to get it to work. If you try to rest slowly on the rope, you will slip down the rope 6-12 inches. Its not a big deal unless you don't trust it and aren't expecting it. I recommend backing this device up. I use this device on TR Solo

Works great for Top-Rope Solo (primary device)
Feeds smooth with a weighted tail of free hang fixed line. I use this as my primary/top device at chest harness, and a Petzl Microscender as my secondary/backup at sit harness in my solo T/R rigging on single static line. I have climbed 5.10+ with this setup, and plan to use it next winter in Ouray CO ice. This combo is what some guides were using during their speed solo comp when I was there last January.
