Yes you can trim this hair and you can also use heat on it as well. Because it is human hair and has a somewhat silky texture, you shouldn't need to straighten it that often. With proper maintenance, it could last up to a year. I would advise agaimst using too many high heat settings because it may thin it out. If you use heat on it, keep it at a lower setting. It will work just as well. I have had mine for about 8 months and it looks about the same as when I first received it. But I also don't use a lot of heat on it.
