the full spectrum of humanity explored
Dostoevsky writes for the common man. mostly accessible sometimes convoluted."Notes from the Underground" is a bit tedious but drives home many great points. to have a conversation with a fellow person one must agree on terms (2 x 2 = 4) but humanity can not be reduced to a mathematical equation (y=mX+B) or you invalidate free will...so the "truth" lies somewhere in between."White Night" takes you in to the mind of a hopeless romantic who can't tell the lady he loves her. where does Hallmark come up with these ideas? it is really here."The Double" was censored beyond recognition. this is the 1866 Dostoevsky approved version. there are many others available for those who care to study one story.so eight stories in all. if you want to complete the experience this volume should satisfy most.

Seriously GREAT stories
Seriously GREAT Stories. And I'm not exaggerating. I intend to offer my more literary children a copy of this in their adulthood. Doestoevsky has an uncanny insight into human nature. The stories are at once comic and tragic. I only wish I had his wit.

Great
I read this for a russian class on literature. But, the novels were truly amazing. They really do live up to their reputation as some of the best literature in the world. Thanks.-George
