Awesome canister filter
I purchased this filter for my fluval edge which is a 12 gallon tall tank. The little hang on back filter that came with the tank was just not adequate, I would do water changes weekly and by mid week my water had a slight green to it, no good! I was between this filter and the zoo med, this one is slightly bigger and had less reviews but better reviews then the zoo med so I went with this one.For my 12 gallon it keeps the water very clean and clear, the output is definitely adequate. Its customizable you can have it just under your tank, to the side of your tank, or on the back like a hang on back filter. It has several output options you can use a spray bar, which has 2 different lengths, you can just leave the tube to output the water, or they give you a little piece that disperses the water with no spray bar. It also come with a sponge to put over the input in case you have shrimp or really small fish.To prime (get it started) the filter is VERY easy, all you do is secure the lid take the little lid if you will off and fill it up completely with water, plug it in and it starts right up.A couple BAD THINGS i can think of is the instructions are very confusing, you have to keep looking back and forth at the text and pictures, its just organized poorly. If someone was brand new to canister filters I can see them having a hard time BUT be patient its a great filter, its really common sense just take your time and think about it. ALSO the hose you are given is not long enough to put underneath the tank, not in my case anyway. I cut maybe a fourth of the hose off and its siting next to my tank. Also the small clips (not the big clips on the longer side, the small ones on the short ends) on the lid aren't attached to the filter they slide in a groove, when unbuckling it, came off and i thought it broke, don't worry it just fits into a groove.UPDATE 10/4/15 I have a different aquarium now, its a 20 gallon long. This filter is for up to a 20 gallon, so technically i'm at the max and it keep my tank very clean. I open the filter up once a month and clean the motor, impeller, all the media gets squeezed out and the filter gets a light scrub. I take great care of it and I've had zero issues. I am considering a filter upgrade now, however this filter keeps my 20 gallon heavily planted aquarium impressively clean.

Best 10 gallon filter !!!!
I had trouble keeping my 10 gallon clear with the stock filter it came with. It’s a corner tank so the filter was internal and I was looking all the filters but they they would take too much space in the tank. This was perfect because the shape of the tank wouldn’t allow me to get a HOB filter and I Had limited space in the 10 gallon. I just sided over my tank a bit and put it behind the tank! It’s so quiet my air pump is louder. A huge benefit is that you can add poly fill in the filter basket and lots of space for bio media which many 10 gallon filters don’t have ! They filter does require time to setup but it worth the time with the flexibility has for your tank setup. Great filter and I recommend for anyone who looking for a 10 gallon filter with strong water flow. Just a tip fill up the filter with water before operating and will be quiet to the point you cant hear. The water is getting clearer and I just had setup !

Unexpectedly quiet
Once all the air purges from the system the only sound is a very quiet motor running. I do have mine set up right next to my little 3 gallon tank. The suction is pretty good. A small course sponge sleeve was included with mine to put on the intake. All filter media was included. Make sure you get the bottom filters lined up with the intake hole. I rinsed the ceramic media and it still left the water with a white cloudy haze. I couldn’t get it cleared up so I did a 90% water change and removed the ceramics. One more water change and it will be crystal clear. I do not have fish in the tank at this time but it is a planted tank.Install the extension on the return bar if you want to reduce the flow. It does have a strong stream so betas and baby fish might have a harder time if you’ve got this on a small tank.I’m letting the ceramics soak in a bucket until they are seasoned better.Easy assembly. Quick startup.I would purchase this again.Update:I purchased another one And forgot my own advice. Throw those dang beads in the garbage! I got a new 29 gallon tank and even though it’s small, it works really well. I love how quiet it is. The filter pad and the sponge filter work really well polishing the water. I bought some clay beads used for hydroponics and they don’t cloud the water at all.

Spectacular cansister filter.
For having a small foot print, this unit does a darn good job. Right now I'm using a small filter bag with carbon, which I'm planning on removing, and added 2 layers of filter pads. I have my unit mounting/hanging off my tank so the horses are around 8inches on the inlet and outlet side. Someone there is a air pocket in the inlet jose which causes some noise, but all I do is squeeze the hose where the air is and water fills up that section is and the noise Is gone. I never had to open the fill port to add any extra water because of other reviewers that claims they had 1/3 air. This is currently being used on my 5 gal fluval tank and my bamboo shrimp loves it. I do find it to be a little strong but thats fine. When the filter gets to be around 2 to 3 weeks old, the pressure is fine. I usually change filter media around 4 to 6 weeks.I was considering using this on my 28gal biocube but not sure yet. Was going to start with 1 of them and add a second of I needed more filtering.
