One shot...
Great crystal growing kit that grows a number of different crystals. My only gripe with this is that you have to do all 3 types at the same time as you mix the formula all in one go. This kinda reduces the longevity of the kit as once you've got them all growing your done with it. Would have been nice to have 3 packets of formula to allow each to be grown as and when you wanted.

Kids loved it but didn't look exactly like pictures
It was slightly complicated to make the 3 different 'gems' and they didn't look 100% like the picture. Lots of 'gem' material grow around the edges of the container. But the boys loved it and enjoyed it for a long time afterwards. Not sure the glow in the dark one really glows.

Brilliant
This kit was a great buy. The kit consists of lump of soft sandy plaster with some stones set in it, a tool for chipping away the plaster, a paintbrush, a magnifying glass, a pouch to put them in, a guide to the stones and a card to display the crystals on.On first impression the lump of plaster didn’t look that impressive, it was only about 3 by 2 by 4 inches long. But has taken ages to extract the stones with just the plastic tool supplied. Our five and three year olds have spent 20 minutes at a time, chipping away at it, which has been enough to extract a few stones each time. They then go and wash them and put it in the pouch to hide to stop anyone stealing themWe’ve already spent over an hour with this, and extracted 10 stones. The stones vary in size but averaged half inch cubes. The display card is supplied with some plastic covers which are a decent way to make a long term storage for the stones. You just have to cope with the mess and dust from the Sandy plaster type material, we found a large lid from a storage box helped contain the debris. The kids loved it. It's a great buy and definitely recommended.

Plastic looking ‘gems’ - BUY NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC!!!!
Poor.I’d purchased the National Geographic Mega Gemstone Dig which my daughter absolutely LOVED. And so I chose to purchase this product purely so I didn’t replicate the exact same gift twice. The gems are poor quality.National Geographic is by far better quality. I’m disappointed as is my daughter. If it wasn’t for the fact it’s been opened I would send it back and request a refund as it’s not meeting my needs/requirements.

Gets dusty quick
Great little kit to play with, However, the Sand seems a bit hard to mine (and it ends up all over) with the plastic tools provided, I ended up with a hammer and chisel to allow myself a valiant attempt a mining these for my daughter. However, she loved it so thats all that counts.

Delighted with this for my 6 year old son
I chose this for my son's 6th birthday, based on reviews, and was not disappointed. At first, my son complained because the block of plaster is very hard and takes a lot of hammering, with patience and persistance. This is one of the reasons I chose it for him, because I thought it would do him good to have something that might teach him to persevere. It needed my help to begin with. However, once he found a bit of his first crystal, he was hooked. He still needed a bit of help, but eventually, he was stuck in, hammering and chiselling for hours and whooping with joy every time he found a new crystal, or got one out. He was delighted with his little bag to put them in and couldn't wait to show his finds to friends and nanna. He has even asked me if he can have another one for Christmas so he can collect more crystals.I am very impressed with the quality of this toy. The crystals look very nice and all the tools provided are great and can be used again for something else. There is a lot of dust made, so watch out. We set it up on a tray, on a table in the garden on a nice day, and the tray had to be emptied out frequently.

did not come out like the pictures on the box
My husband did this with our 6 year old and although he enjoyed it the glow in the dark crystal and the blue crystal did not look at all like the ones on the box. The white crystals on the tree came out a little better but also not as full and some of them fell off the "tree" as the crystal attachments weren't strong. Make sure to put on a plate or something as it can get very crumbly and messy. Blue one overflowed and made a mess.

Disappointing results
My daughter asked for this for her birthday. We were really disappointed with the results. We followed the instructions but the crystals were quite disappointing and much smaller than in the photos. It does say that it should be at a set temperature and our house usually is around then but it might grow better in summer months but I would not recommend.
