Fun
Great fun watching the crystals grow! Good for all ages, as adult doing this with my son found it entertaining to watch. Follow the instructions and use the appropriate size container. Would definitely buy it again.

My guide
Follow my guide 1. Follow their traditional instructions 2. Once u have a good grow with crystals covering the whole stone and it's not falling apart remove it 3. Chip off undesired edges of growth 4 save all the current water salt solution and chip off any dried salt/crystals from the edges of cup or bowl and take a small pan pour all that into pot and heat it and stir till all is liquid and pour that back in the cup or container you were using to grow but do not put the stone with the leftover grown crystals in until it's warm (WARM) 5. Repeat this process till it looks like mine After this kit I just ordered alum from Amazon and started growing my own crystals with out needing a kit anymore .

Some good and some bad.
The kit was interesting but the instructions I followed first were overly complicated. This led to confusion and poor performance of the product. Know what I know after, another kit would likely get bigger and do better.

Easy to set up
Didnโt grow as big a crystal as shown in pictures but still nice.

Directions are Wrong - Needs FAR MORE WATER
My son loved growing crystals with the National Geographic Mega Crystal Growing Kits with the six crystals and light-up stand. We loved them so much they became our standard gift for birthday parties. We are not new to the crystal growing game. However, when we purchased this jumbo crystal (giant glow in the dark crystal), we were very disappointed. The powder never dissolved, despite using boiling water and stirring for far longer longer than guided to. We even tried to add water to help it dissolve with no luck (likely didn't add enough extra water). Our crystal barely formed and instead the powder just hardened so the crystal couldn't be removed from the vessel and it is just one solid, boring, non-crystal blob. I now see that other reviews also mention the powder to water ratio being wrong in the instructions so make sure you add a LOT more water so you, too, don't have to just toss out the mistake.

I'm not sure if I did it right, but it turned out cool.
I really enjoy how my crystal growth turned out. This product is designed for children but as an adult I'm not entirely sure I followed the instructions properly. I was definitely expecting more of a single rock like structure but my crystal ended up taking the shape of the bowl I put it in. At first I didn't think the crystal would come out of the glass bowl I grew it in but with just a little poking it came free. It takes several days for the crystal to complete it's growth and it's kind of fun to watch the progress.

Poor instructions
This is a "jumbo" version of the normal NatGeo set that's sold in stores. It comes with three times the powder stuff so that it can make a bigger crystal. My issue is that the instructions that came with it were identical to the small set, right down to the amount of water to use. I was skeptical, but my kiddo and I followed said instructions perfectly, because it's all about being precise and learning science. I figured maybe it was supposed to have a higher concentration. Unfortunately, we stirred and stirred for ten straight minutes in the hot water and couldn't get it to dissolve entirely--it was physically impossible. We ended up having to transfer to a much bigger container than it said and having to add more water and more water until (go figure) the concentration from the original set was reached. Then it dissolved no problem. Unfortunately, by then, we were half an hour into stirring this stuff, and kiddo was frustrated that we weren't following instructions and things weren't working. It took all the fun out of it. It should also be noted that you need a big glass mixing bowl for this. The stuff seems to wash out okay after you're finished, but plan on a BIG vessel. It doesn't come with anything to use. Also, the crystal itself doesn't glow, and especially not like the photo. The "seed rock" glows a bit, but the crystal you grow on it is just clear. Bit of false advertising there. It's cool stuff... why are they deceptive about additional features? Overall, this was super frustrating. I expect more from NatGeo. Some of these kits have been really fun and cool, and others have been complete busts for one reason or another. They need to do more testing and quality control on their end before releasing products.

Nostalgic
Bought this for my little 6 year old brother as a Christmas gift and he loved it. I remember doing these when I was his age, always so fun.
