I have used it for my cats to scratch on and it works great. It does however come with some dust when unpacking so have a vaccum cleaner ready. The ends can unwind sometimes but nothing that cannot be fixed with a little glue

My cat has a Cat Tree, which she has used for about one year. One of the Tree's legs has a sisal rope wound around which serves as a scratching post. The rope was totally ruined after one year of scratching; I ordered 100 feet of Goldberg's 3/8 inch sisal rope as a replacement.I found the new rope to be of high quality, with no offensive odor which other reviewers have reported for other brands of rope. For repair with the new rope, I used two tools which made the repair very easy and resulted in a "professional job". The first was my Dremel tool, using with their heavy-duty cutoff attachment. This was used to remove the old badly frayed rope, which was stapled in place. The tool cut right through the rope and severed the staples used to attach the rope to the wooden post. The second tool was a heavy duty stapler using 1/2 inch long heavy duty staples. During the rewinding process, I periodically stapled the rope to the wooden post in an area not accessible by my cat. The total process was completed efficiently without incident.I recommend this rope to all looking to replace their cat scratching-post rope.

This is great high quality rope that tightens well on the post. I refurbished this old post and used about 50' of the 100' roll with a mix of glue gun and staple gun (need long staples for this rope). The cat is thrilled and really likes the coarse texture and the thick diameter. I bought some sisal rope at the store but it stank so badly of chemicals that I decided to return it, this one has no smell other than a slight hay-like smell which is no problem and feels a lot safer for my cat than the stinky stuff I bought before. So I'm glad I paid the premium for this, almost double the price unfortunately but really good quality. It does cast a lot of fibres during installation, but not so much when being scratched, but will still need a good and frequent vacuum around the area. The advice about using a hammer to tamp the rope down was excellent and made a big difference in reducing space between coils.
