A Wonderful Surprise
This book is so much more than its title. With the backdrop of Greek gods, Titans and mythology, a captivating story of the sisters Cleora, Bronte and Althea takes its many twists and turns. The strength of the three sisters, but especially Althea, comes out in full force, with a very charming ending!

Anthropomorphism at Its Finest
The story of the goddess, and her sisters, in the story are inspiring. Anyone--man or woman-- can gain strength from their adventures.I'd like to praise the plot more, but suffice it to say that fans of mythology will be pleased. I'm not a heavy mythology fan and I was enthralled the whole way through!

A wonderful twist on a well-known myth
I have loved the Greek myths since I was a young child. As such, I am familiar with the story of how Zeus, spirited away by his mother who then tricked Cronos into eating a rock thinking it was the baby, grew up to challenge his father and defeat him, thus becoming the king of the gods. After reading this book, I should probably say that I thought I knew the story. In reality, I only knew part of the story - the part of the story dominated by and told by men. Emily R. King takes this well-established mythos and reimagines it from the viewpoint of the women who were involved. After all, we know that Rhea was unhappy with the fact that Cronos continued to eat all of the children they had together. But just how would she have carried out her plan? And who else would have needed to be involved?Althea is such a strong character from the very beginning. Though she blames her youngest sister for the death of her mother, she quickly realizes who the real enemy is; that realization - made at 7 though it was - stayed with Althea and cemented in her the absolute desire to see the dominance of men brought down.I definitely enjoyed the final battle at the end between Zeus and Cronos, and by the time the battle actually occurred, I was ready to throw a couple of punches at Cronos myself for the absolute misogynistic arrogant ass he was being. I may have even cheered a bit when Cleora and Bronte got involved. As I was reading this book, I went back and forth between reading the ebook and listening to the audiobook, though I probably ended up listening to a bit more than I read. The audiobook was narrated by Lauren Ezzo. When I first began listening to her narration, I had a bit of trouble with her male voices, though I can't put my finger on exactly why - they just sounded a bit off. However, after I had been listening for about an hour to an hour and a half, I found that the male voices didn't bother me anymore. I guess at that point I had adjusted to them well enough that they no longer sounded off. Beyond that, Ezzo gave a wonderful performance, and she was able to convey the emotions that Althea was feeling so well that it was easy to identify with her.I am definitely looking forward to reading and listening to the second book; I purchased both the ebook and the audiobook before I had even finished Wings of Fury - I was enjoying it that much. So, if you like the Greek myths and want to read one of the stories with a twist, then you need to read this book. I bet you won't regret it.

#abrknpoet reviews Wings of Fury
Wings of Fury by Emily R. King is an epic novel of ancient Greece, Titans and treachery, and the women who dare to rise up against the tyranny of the Golden Age. The story follows Althea Lambros, a strong-minded woman who controls her own fate and lives to honour her dying mother's plea to protect her two sisters at all costs. Althea's journey toward crushing the tyranny has begun. It is a destiny foretold by the Fates. And she is following their visions. On the southern isle of Crete, hidden among mortal women who have fled the Titans, is the Boy God, son of Cronus and believed dead. He shares Althea's destiny to vanquish the Almighty—fate willing. Because Cronus has caught wind of the plot. He's amassing his own forces against Althea's righteous rebellion and all those who will no longer surrender or run. There will be war. If she's to survive to write their history, the indomitable Althea must soar higher than any god.Positives: The book is a fast-paced and action-packed adventure that explores themes of feminism, freedom, and destiny. The author creates a vivid and immersive world of ancient Greece, with rich details and mythology. The characters are well-developed and complex, each with their own motivations and flaws. The romance between Althea and the Boy God is sweet and passionate, with a hint of forbidden love.Negatives: The book is not very original or surprising, as it follows a typical YA fantasy formula of a chosen one, a prophecy, a rebellion, and a love triangle. The plot is sometimes predictable and convenient, with some deus ex machina moments and coincidences. The writing style is simple and straightforward, but lacks some depth and nuance.3.8 stars

Strikingly good!
Reading the details of the book I had a very different idea of how this was going to play out.I am a huge Greek mythology fan, and this book surpassed my expectations. Althea is a dauntless heroine that should be aspiring to all young women.I can’t speak too much on this book without giving any of it away. But I will say that it’s extremely well written. You can tell that Emily R King did immense research on the mythology before writing it. This will forever be on of my top favourites.

What a great surprise
Bought the two books Wings of Fury and Crown of Cinders because of they were on special offer from Kindle Store and they had good reviews. When I began to read the first book, I began to think they were not going to be to my taste, but as with all books I buy, I persevere. I'm so glad I did. What a storyHave to say mythology is still not my thing but I can't wait to read the follows on book. Hope it's as good as this one.

Interesting but complex story
I found it hard to get into this book. Many characters and names make it a little hard to follow. Once I got past about a quarter of the book it became more interesting.

YA/NA take on Greek mythology
A YA/NA Greek mythology story.Three sisters Cleora, Bronte and Althea despise the GodCronus (known for eating his children) and for treating females as inferior. Cronus is also responsible for the death of their mother Stavra as he got her pregnant and she died following the birth of a half Titan. Cronus sends one of his soldiers to retrieve the baby girl and the soldier brands Althea with an ownership mark vowing to return for her when she is of age. When Althea is 18 she attends the town market and visits oracles, who tell her her fate and that she must find the Son of Cronus who has been hidden from him as he is the key to his downfall.Althea journeys with Theo, a soldier who assisted her and her sister Bronte following Cleora’s capture and they encounter the boy god Zeus. Their travels have them meeting many of the gods - Helios, Selene, Eos who try and help them in their task of defeating Cronus. There is always a twist and nothing is ever as it seems as the pull that Althea has had inside her has a greater explanation than she could ever have imagined.A fascinating story of the Greek gods that kept me intrigued. I’m looking forward to reading book 2.
