Great for accuracy
I purchased this as a gift for my son. I have a similar caliper, and they are great for those of us that need (or want) exact measurements.

Great caliper and excellent customer service!
Great caliper and has met my needs for years in the home garage for all sorts of tasks. Quality material. Accurate. Big screen. Nice caseHad an issue with a battery replacement and sent the company an email. They responded and 530pm on a Thursday evening and had me sorted out in just a couple of emails. Amazing!10/10 recommend.

Easy read fonts, rugged, accurate
I'm a journeyman machinist, retired, doing stuff part time. I ordered many different digital calipers, and like the large displays these have, even better than my mitutoyos. Be warned: I've returned several calipers that only have large fonts for the first or second digit, then the rest are small...this is confusing and negates the large font advantage. I also like the front-button controls, since they're visible next to the display, and I won't accidentally hit them, like some units with the buttons on the underside of the calipers. I also like the buttons that have one function: on/off, zero, inch/mm/fraction. This unit had a multi-function button for on/off and zero. Not a big deal but still not perfect for me. This does display fractions but not a big plus for me, and I wish they would round the fractions to 64ths of an inch, not 128ths. What value is knowing a part is 77/128" anyway? The battery compartment ease of access is a plus. Some units require a screwdriver to access the compartment, which is a pain, especially if you're in the middle of a job and don't have a tiny screwdriver handy. The mechanics are smooth, accurate, and have inside/outside measurements, depth, and step, and all seem to be accurate, although I'll calibrate the measurement I'm doing with precision calibration "donuts", or gauge blocks, if the measurement needs to be super accurate. The battery lasts a long time if you remember to shut it off after use, and a good tip is to lock the carriage when turning if off for the day, and storing it in a drawer, where it might be triggered on, if it's jarred with opening/shutting the drawer, or other action. If you're new to using calipers, practice your measurements on a calibrated material....dowel, gauge block, etc. Your hand strength on the carriage should become uniform, and should only take a light touch to get accurate results. Erratic, or too much pressure during measurements, especially round objects, will create errors. I could go on but hopefully there's some useful information here. I love these calipers. BTW, spend the money and get good quality, stainless units, not plastic, unless you're really strapped for cash. These will last years. "Buy the best you can afford and cry only once; buy inferior calipers and cry every time you try to use them." Nothing worse than cutting a dozen parts, then find they're scrap because the crappy calipers weren't accurate. These are very good calipers.

Not a Harbor Freight special, and not a Mitutoyo
I'm not a professional machinist. I am a semi-talented amateur however. I own a linear caliper from Harbor Freight, and I occasionally use Mitutoyos at work. I bought this (8") to treat myselfThis makes the HF calipers look like toys. On the HF, I can close the jaws lightly, then roll the wheel hard and see 0.1mm of change. On this one, I see 0.01mm. This is slightly less smooth than the Mitutoyos at work (running the jaws in and out feels just slightly rough), but functionally it works just as well. Accuracy is fine on a couple of things I checked (within 0.02mm of the Mitutoyo), repeatability is excellent. These are also heavy. But I love the display - something you can read from across the room. Good clear font with good contrast too. It comes with Auto-on (move the jaws and it comes on) and Auto-off, features that a few calipers I looked at buying before this were missing.Roughly the same price as an equivalent Harbor Freight caliper, but twice the value.Roughly the same capabilities and accuracy of a Mitutoyo, but at 1/3 to 1/4 the price.I'm gonna dock it one star, but that's purely for not being quite as smooth as a Mitutoyo. Of course, I can buy three or four of these for the cost of one Mitutoyo.

My experience with the Clockwise Caliper
I use my caliper a bit at home, but most of the time I use its abilities onboard my motor sailor, but this review would apply to those who use it primarily on RVs. Straight out of the box, it is one impressive looking instrument and is not flimsy in the least like so many cheaper plastic versions. I used it several times, the last when I had a malfuctioning bilge pump. This last time, a professonal diesel mechanic was using it, and a couple of days later I needed to use it myself. Unfortunately, the LCD readout was blank, so I assumed it was a faulty battery as it had just worked the previous week with the mechanic. I had forgotten that it takes a CR battery, and how you access it. Instead, I saw what looked like a charging port (in reality it was a data transfer port only, so I plugged it in. When that didn't work, I researched the issue, and found the CR battery door, and after opening that, I couldn't get the battery to come out. So I used a small screwdriver to try and free it, and this may have caused a short in the LCD battery. So I called Clockwise to see what they could suggest I do, and after telling them what I had done, they said they would be glad to send me a new caliper without charge, if I would just give them the Amazon order number. I received my new caliper the very next day after providing them with the requested information. I plan to give the same caliper to a couple of guys that work on my boat as it would make a perfect gift.

Performs as well as way more expensive ones.
For me this fit all my requirements. It was dead on when tested on a calibration block too. I really like not having the small button batteries and their flimsy intermittent contacts and battery covers. The battery in this lasts way longer and doesn't give me trouble the way the other style batteries do on other calipers I own. The display has been awesome. The length is just right for me anyway as the shorter calipers are not as easy to use with one hand. Maybe I have big hands, I don't know. Anywho, I have been very pleased with this purchase and the price.

A solid mid tier set of calipers, plays with the big names
I chose these as I wanted the imperial measurement to be full size font to the 0.001" resolution. For calipers that have fractional displays (which this does) the display is often compromised by the number of display columns i.e. such that the 0.01" and below readout is a smaller font which I find very distracting or even confusing. These calipers have a very wide display so that the fractions are to the right of the 0.001' column so a reading of, say 3.562", appears in the same font size (0.0005" indications appear in a smaller font but I find that is actually a rational transition, i.e. tenths of a thou are negligible for me). The finish is way above the low end calipers, smooth and visually good which I really appreciate (I have a Mitutoyu dial caliper and they are similar in smoothness). The display is very cool, very clear and crisp. The control buttons are positioned so that you won't inadvertantly hit the during normal use. I am very happy and am pleased that I did not buy one of the $30 types again.

Fantastic value for money
After using these for a few months I'd definitely say these calipers are very good considering the low price.

Affordable 12" Caliper
Just received this item and it is great. Typical caliper of this type and quality are more than double the price. It comes in a protective plastic case. Its 12" reach is something every DIY hobbyist needs in their tool's drawer. I've purchased several tools this year and this must rank among the top 2 best buys.
