105W CFL Bulbs in this kit makes it far superior vs. the cheaper 45W kits
I bought this kit with slight reservation because of some feedback I read, but they turned out to be unfounded. I am very happy I bought this kit with 105W CFL bulbs (vs. 45W CFL bulbs offered in other kits). The slightly higher price in this kit for >2X brighter bulbs is well worth it - I can still use brighter bulbs, so I cannot imagine how 45W CFL can possibly provide enough light. The box light has a ring in it that must be pushed all the way back towards the light socket in order to fully extend the box light. The box light position is locked into place in discrete steps, by tightening a nut. I don't understand the comment about box light not holding it's position. Also, the background stand has rods across the top that fits together, but needs to be twisted to lock tightly in place. Neither of these installation tips were explained in the one page manual provided - the manual is not very useful. One annoyance I encountered when trying to extend the posts for the light stands to their fullest. The inner post comes out completely as there is nothing to catch it, and as result, a piece of locking plastic falls out and was frustratingly difficult to re-assemble. It would have been nice if there were a catch, or something to indicate the post were near full extension. I used a white marker to mark the position where I should stop extending the post further.Otherwise, the stands seem reasonably sturdy. The 105W CFL bulbs, however, are huge and look like it wants to tip over. I extend the foot till cross beams are pretty much horizontal. I also point the box light & umbrella light in direction aligned to one of the foot for best stability. With above precautions, I don't see stability of the stands being a problem, even when I had the box lights extended to their full height. Background cloths come folded & wrinkled, so be prepared to spend some time to smooth these wrinkles out. The cloths are also fairly porous, so you will see any light sources placed behind the cloth. The kit is packed in fairly hefty cloth bag, and not some cheap vinyl plastic that rips easily, especially when the material gets old.Overall a good buy & I would recommend this 105W kit over the other slightly cheaper 45W kits being offered out there. 105W CFL bulbs are expensive, if you buy them separately.

Great for an amateur photographer on budget.
As an amateur photography enthusiast, over the years, I learned that well-lit ambiance is very important for indoor photography. After trying a few light sources, a backdrop stand, and backdrops independently, I decided to buy all of them as a kit which was economical. Of course, this contains two different light sources: both umbrella and box light setup in addition to other paraphrenia that you may not need all. But, I am sure you will find some use when you are bored and want to try something new. It is great for a house or backyard party. When I received my first order, there was some issue with the umbrella holders and the kit bag was torn, Upon contacting the seller, he promptly offered to replace both. To my surprise, the replacement something different than what I asked for but was more generous than I expected, probably as compensation for my wasted time.I used this setup including multiple paraphrenias twice so far and I did what it is supposed to do.Pros:Economical if you were to buy all items independently from the Amazon store from the same or different sellers.Does the job as described and practicalGood customer support from the seller.Bright lightsGood backdrops, cloth-based, hence washable. The power chords for the lights are lengthy compared to others that I tried.Cons:If you are looking for a professional-grade, heavy support background this may not the one you are looking for.The fluorescent bulbs are a bit bulky, I wish they are small. You may not need all the backdrops but it is subjective

Supplements ambient light, too weak by itself.
For its price it's ok, the carrying bag and backdrops are not good quality. The bag is thin and ripped the second time using it and the zipper came off due to bad stitching. The backdrops are really thin and has small tears that look like manufacturing defects. But for $135 I can't be upset, I got it mostly for the light and backdrop stands. As far as performance goes, this is fine for personal or family pictures that mostly use the ambient light to light the picture with the kit lights to supplement so you can have better ISO performance or fill shadows. The color shift is also really bad towards blue/cool. I don't suggest you get this if you plan on using it for business or professional use. You're better buying one or two cheap stands and cheap speedlites for off camera lighting. Some advice if you use it. The umbrellas are shoot through diffuser ones. I saw some buyer pictures that are using them to try and reflect with the CFL bulb. You have to turn it so the light shines through the umbrella and creates a diffused light source.

This is a super buy. It's certainly not pro gear- meaning it ...
This is a super buy. It's certainly not pro gear- meaning it would fall apart if you used it full time and set it up/took it down every day, but that's not what this is for.I'm kind of annoyed I didn't do this sooner. I just needed some better light to take pictures of my kids, and this fits the bill perfectly. Had I known it was this easy I would have done this a long time ago. The backdrops and stand are a big plus, too.So long and short, it's kind of flimsy and will break if you need to move it around a lot, but for joe average that just wants a little studio, it's a great deal. I wish I'd done it sooner.

Not the Best
If you want a nice back ground you want to make sure this material has no wrinkles so you'll have to either continuously iron and then keep carefully rolled away or just go with paper backgrounds. These look so tacky no matter how I did the lighting. The rest of the setup is great, just not the material.
