very good
This is an authentic controller, not a knock-off; I was a bit unsure because I've never seen gold. I purchased this back in July (2013), and I only use this on my backup console in the spare room, but so far nearly 3 months later there's been no issues). This came in sixaxis packaging, and L3/R3 joysticks are very responsive, so that's pretty much how I know it's not a knock-off.Good product, will buy again, and definitely recommend. One bit of advice is to add it to your wish list and watch the price as it will fluctuate. I typically do not pay more than 39-43 for a controller anymore, and with Free SSS (or prime customers) there's no shipping costs.

it makes it useless, or you have to share charging time with ...
For a $50 controller, you would think they could throw in the standard 3 foot charging cable. Unless you have an extra one, which I do not, it makes it useless, or you have to share charging time with an existing controller. The product description leads you to think that it would have a charging cable:"Charge the DUALSHOCK 3 with the PlayStation 3 system using the controller's USB cable. And you can even plug it in during gameplay, so you'll never miss a beat."The box when it arrived clearly stated it did not.To not put a cable in the package is completely inexcusable in my mind, again if you were buying this from scratch, it would make the product completely unusable as a controller, its an absolute joke especially considering these are already far more expensive controllers than just about anything else around.

NOT ACTUAL GOLD
I brought this controller to my pawn shop after getting an unbelievable deal on it through Amazon. Dude told me it wasn't actual Gold, but just paint. Had to sell my car and live on the streets for five months as a result. Homeless and destitute, I took to a life of petty crime.Met up with this local lunatic with his face painted all funny. He tells me we're gonna kill The Batman. I don't know who The Batman is, but I'm terrified of this clown guy. If you don't laugh at his jokes, he shoots you. I told him about the gold PS3 controller, and he says, "That's not a joke. You're just an idiot."We're building something big in the sewers.

4 Stars, here's why
I can't determine if it's a system issue or controller issue as I have no other wireless controllers to test it with. The controller will not function properly (input lag, multiple button presses) unless in direct line of sight and within ~4 meters of PS3. IT COULD BE AN ISSUE WITH MY POS3 AS IT IS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS BEEN THROUGH HELL, SATAN'S COLON, AND BELKIN TECH SUPPORT. But plugged in it works fine and before it worked fine. I have had this for over a month and it just started doing this over break. The control is tight and responsive otherwise and I see no reason to not buy as a substitute because this s***s gold and whose ego doesn't deserve a gold controller? I will update this when I get confirmation of it being a system or controller issue.BUT, don't take one bad controller as the decision to not buy one. If it is a controller issue, it could be from wear because I treat my controllers like a, well, badly. So I probably just broke it.

Controller arrived damaged
The PS3 controller that I received arrived damaged. The left thumbstick has a hole punctured in it and it does not return to the center position (eg. Push to the right it stays to the right, push to the left it stays to the left) so its unusable. Based on the description, I'm disappointed that I may have to repair the controller before I can do anything with it.

You will not be disappointed buying a replacement Sony controller
For those uninformed and looking for a cheap alternative, only buy a Sony replacement controller. The cheap units manufactured as replacements in China seem to work, but will not stayed sync with the playstation. If you want to use these controllers with the main station, these will need to be connect via the USB cable, otherwise forget about it. Note, Sony units do not use infrared for connectivity, but RF which does not required the controller to be pointed directly at the unit. You will not be disappointed buying a replacement Sony controller, but save your money buying the cheap aftermarkets which WILL NOT Satisfy (words from someone who has been there and lost)

Exactly as expected
Arrived in perfect condition a day ahead of when it was scheduled to. Immediately charged it up and started playing with it, Works great and is the actual Sony controller. Looks just like my black one which came with my PS3. To those getting upset that it doesn't come with the charging cable, I didn't see anywhere that one was included in the box, merely the information that you can charge it with one. I wasn't upset because I got a charging cable when I bought my PS3, it's not as if I bought this with no means to charge it. Next time I suggest looking to see what's listed as "what's in the box."
